Router issues

Hello reddit, I'm hoping this is the right subreddit to get help.

I've had a router (wired) for probably about 4-5 years and lately its been running like absolute junk. Currently I'm downloading at speeds of 180 kb/s even though I'm running cable internet. Sometimes it also completely shuts down and I need to go power it off and back on until it starts working again.

I have tried sending my ethernet cord straight from the internet into my computer or Netflix box and I haven't experienced issues, however this is getting kind of annoying/ridiculous.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I better off just buying a new router?
