I can't play a note, I've never played violin before and I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

I was told to apply rosin to the bow, and I have but not a single sound comes out. Maybe the rosin is too hard?

EDIT: I was able to get sound finally after about an hour of applying rosing and sanding down the pegs to keep them from slipping. I'm off to go get some new strings today. I'll upload a video in a week or so as suggested by magesing. Thanks for all the great tips!
