Weird knee activity when squatting

My shins are bowed. Not to the point where any of my doctors have even pointed it out to me, or that I really stand out in a crowd, but I've always noticed that they do curve outward slightly and then come back in.

I've been squatting for a good three months now with something weird going on in both of my knees. As I get to parallel, the ligament(tendon? something cord-like) on the outside of each knee quickly slides over a bony bump that seems like its the top of one of the bones that make up the lower leg. It makes a a snap like noise and you can actually see the ligament slide over the bump as I proceed to go below parallel. This happens whether I'm squatting with weights or not.

There is no pain, however, and the only comment I got out of my primary-care doctor was "if it doesn't hurt, I wouldn't worry about it".

I'm kind of wondering if I should see an orthopedist, and also if anyone else has experienced something like this? My hamstrings are really tight and I'm thinking it could be because of that? But when I look at other people's knees they don't have this bony bump sticking out like I do.
