/r/LGBT, am I being too sensitive?
Straight male here. Quick context.
For the first 18 years of my life, I was a complete asshole. Not just to gay people, but pretty much everyone. Then a couple of people I genuinely love came out so to speak, and it kind of changed my thinking on a lot of things.
Fast forward to now.
There are few words that piss me off as much as faggot. I personally think it's a hateful disgusting word and I'll let anyone know as much who says it in my presense. Some people seem to think it's fine if they don't mean it as an insult to gay people. I think just saying the word is an insult.
So my question is, am I being too sensitive? Is the word not really as much as a big deal as I place on to it. I live in rural Ohio and don't hang around too many in the LGBT community. So I figure I'd bring my question to a much wider audience (you guys!).
