Considering adoption...

Well, I'm seriously considering adding some company. I've got a decent size house with a good size yard (about 1/3 acre, 4" high fence around). I also run about 2-3 miles on a daily basis so any pets WILL get a good exercise.

My problems is that I'm living by myself at the moment, and I have a job that keeps me out of the house for approximately 10 hours a day. Currently single too, so there's no one to look after the dog while I'm at work.

Would it be irresponsible for me to adopt a dog? I would hate to adopt a dog and not give him/her the attention it needs. Are there any particular breeds that I should consider/avoid because of attention needs?
