Has screwing over old employers ever ended up bad?

Backstory: I started working at restaurant five months ago, didn't like the job but i worked my way up from salads to running the kitchen during service (without a raise). Recently got an offer to work at another place for more pay and an overall more enjoyable work environment. The problem is, seeing as i'm quite involved in this place me leaving with only short notice would kind of put these people in a jam. In an industry where everyone knows everyone and knowing how childish my bosses are:

My question is can quiting abruptly now in any way harm me later on?
