Richard Nixon vs Ronald Reagan: Why make a choice between two different Republicans?
History is one of the greatest teachers.
If you don't learn from it, you're doomed to repeat it.
Right now, people think of Trump as one of the greatest evils ever. I've always thought of him as Nixon 8.0. If you ever thought of Murray Chotiner or the links of Trump to Nixon, they're numerous.
On the other hand, Biden's career goes through the Reagan era and that's where his power was the strongest. As one of the most conservative Democrats, Biden is more conservative than Ronald Reagan. Reagan wasn't a good president. Biden wouldn't make one either.
Yet somehow, people continue to believe we should choose between these two.
What people liked was FDR and JFK. Their respective representatives was Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard. Best domestic policies pushed was Bernie while best foreign policies goes to Tulsi. Andrew Yang was further away from FDR and had those big shoes to fill as a moral capitalist.
Marianne Williamson doesn't quite fit a presidential mold, but she was strongest on reparations and good on Latin American foreign policy.
Mike Gravel was best on these issues but the party screwed him.
At this point, you should really think about what the establishment has chosen: Ronald Reagan and Reaganism for the rest of the nation. Of course, when you have two Republicans, Nixon wins because he has more left wing policies than Ronald Reagan.
Because of DNC shenanigans, we lost the progressive wing to the corporate Democrats that cheated them all. What's left is a choice between Nixon and Reagan.
Now look at the words of Hunter S Thompson:
But what about next time? Who is going to explain in 1976 that all the people who felt they got burned in '72 should "try again" for another bogus challenger? Four years from now there will be two entire generations - between the ages of twenty-two and forty - who will not give a hoot in hell about any election, and their apathy will be rooted in personal experience. Four years from now it will be very difficult to convince anybody who has gone from Johnson/Goldwater to Humphrey/Nixon to Nixon/Muskie that there is any possible reason for getting involved in another bullshit election...
Why should we be making a choice between two conservative candidates?
We need an actual democracy.
