People of Reddit who tried to commit suicide: What made you try? How did you survive (did you maybe want to survive)?

Lots of stuff made me attempt, but I stopped when the I realised the pain I would cause if I succeeded, it's been a few months and i still struggle

Yea can relate its an urge to do it but it's not worth it I actually failed 6 times at some point I noticed that I was so bad at suicide I even gave up on it and I have a much better mental health by not giving a shit about live I take it how it comes

i'm sorry to hear that but glad that you're better now it takes a lot to really not give a shit at all

Not giving a shit is something that became a part of me I always hold up a facade so people thought I was OK because I hated if people pitied me

then I assume you didn't talk to people about your mental health? I know about that facade people put up that makes them seem really happy when they're around people but at some point everyone I know of tried to talk about it to someone.

thanks for the reply! I'm sure with time you'll overcome the initial struggle :)

It was a cry for help via two-hundred some pills.

My best friend had shot himself six months earlier.

I'm sorry for your loss and i hope you're doing better now. I always wondered why people attempt suicide as a form of crying for help though I think I'm starting to understand. Did you actually plan to die or was it rather because you felt like you couldn't talk to anyone or something like that? I hope my questions aren't insensitive to you and I of course understand if you would rather not answer because they are really triggering but I've just been wondering a lot about this topic lately.

Edit: forgot some words, spelling

Your question isn't at all insensitive.

"...was it rather because you felt like you couldn't talk to anyone or something like that?"

It was that, plus my own mood disorder, and what I believe is called 'suicide contagion.'

2
GcilOP•

Yeah the suicide contagion makes a lot of sense and seems to be one of the top reasons in this thread so far for attempted suicides. Looking back do you think you could've talked to anyone if you tried to eventhough you felt like you couldn't?

At the time I don't think so. Didn't have the means or healthy support structure.

I couldn’t handle the bullying and my first and only friend had just committed suicide. I survived because my dogs(technically strays) helped me and they comforted me while I cried

2
GcilOP•

Thats terrible, I'm sorry for you loss. How did the strays save you? I mean did you actually attempted suicide and they somehow saved you or did they stop you from attempting? Either way I'd love to hear a kind of wholesome story in this rather sad and serious thread. :)

I tried to hang myself and after some panicked barking and pawing at me, one of them pushed me up with his body and another knocked me out of the noose the second it loosened a bit

Thats a sweet story. I'm glad you're still here.
