police iD body as Poker Pro Susie Zhao AKA Susie Q.

News

July 13th Body is Found.

Police ID the body.

When I first started watching Live at the Bike Susie was commentating. Because she's a woman she also got a lot of shit in the Twitch chat for no reason.

Although I don't know her personally, learning this has upset me a lot. I'm posting this because I felt people should remember her at least for a moment.

Life taken at 33.

What an absolutely sick and cruel son of a bitch to taint the memory of her life like that for her friends and family. Whoever it is, I hope the Detectives catch them.

I played with her a ton in the PLO game at the Bike. We battled everyday. She would always go off if you showed her a big bluff but she was always a sweetheart. I've only played with her once in the past 2 years but I will miss her. I have no idea why someone would want to do that to her but I hope they rot in hell. Next time the Commerce opens, me and the regs at PLO will have a drink in her memory.

What stakes did she play?

I live near Waterford and played with her a few times in local card rooms. This really shocked me when I first heard about it. It’s so fucked up.

Pretty sure that I've played with her around Detroit as well. Took a few pics to find one that rang a bell, but yeah, pretty sure i've played with her.

I hope she was already gone before the burning happened. :(

Are card rooms open there during covid or is everyone playing in underground games? I only ask because poker could have something to do with it.

2
FormerGameDev•

No charity games or regular casinos, and none of the tribal casinos have poker rooms open at the moment. There's very few underground games going on in the circles I'm aware of, the one that I do know of is always full and has people waiting, so I don't think there's very many undergrounds going at all

i was wondering that too. im curious if poker rooms in that area are open right now. she may have been playing locally after being back at her parents house and pissed off the wrong guy. i haven't heard of any murders related to poker, but it wouldn't surprise me, since people get SO angry.

or someone from the local card room couldve recognized her from LATB, realized she plays fairly big games, and tried to rob her..

another scenario related to poker, albeit the least likely, could be she owed someone money and they sought revenge? however considering the stakes she played on LATB vs whats available in that area, i doubt she could've been in debt for much in the michigan area. Maybe someone owed her money and she was nagging them to collect and they killed her?

come to think of it, with covid closing down games & everyone playing underground, she may have been exposed to some seedy characters she wouldn't otherwise have associated with.

so many options... i really wouldn't be surprised if poker was the motive in a young poker playing female's murder. if they can rule out romantic partners, the likelihood of it being poker related goes up. i'm going to be watching this closely, i hope they continue to cover this case in the news.

I suspect we'll get some news in the upcoming days, I'll try to pay attention, but it looks like it's not really gone with a ton of notice in the news anyway.

While it wouldn't surprise me if cards were involved, it also probably isn't very likely. It's not entirely uncommon for murders to happen in the metro Detroit area. You don't usually find a body in a place like a parking lot in White Lake, though. That's about the only remarkable thing, which makes me feel like someone wanted the body to be found, so that makes it rather curious.

1
black_snake_m0an•

I'm afraid its going to be one of those where we hear about the body and the ID and never hear anything again. I didn't realize that this was close to Detroit, I hadn't heard of it & thought it was some small town.

1
FormerGameDev•

It's a pretty far out suburb area, "metro" Detroit, not really near the city.. probably about a 30 minute drive if you were in Detroit and wanted to drop a body somewhere in the middle of the night.

But, it's not too far away from her home area .. so could well be she met up with someone with bad intent, or someone with bad intent came across her. Could be totally random. Probably just as likely to be totally random, or someone with casual acquaintance, as it would be to be something involving poker.

I'm thinking of a case recently in a suburb between where I'm at and there, where a lady just disappeared, and months later, a guy that was in custody for something else entirely admitted to killing her, and pointed cops to her body. He was a guy who worked security at her office complex, or something like that. I guess he just woke up one day, with intent to kill someone... and she crossed his path first.

It's senseless.. but it happens. :|

She was playing for stakes. Or other peoples money, and she ended up bunk.

1
FormerGameDev•

I have doubts she was busto and that someone killed her for it. I might be wrong, though.

1
randomfuckingguy•

Probably played with other peoples money. Heard she moved from LA because it was too expensive. Sounds like she was in debt to people she shouldn't have taken money from.

This was during the riots? Do you have any idea whats been going on for the last two months bud?

During riots, the only reason anyone is ever killed is "because riots."

i did read she made about 200,000. with her poker wins, over the years. But that doesnt seem like much if you have been a professional poker player since mayb age 20 something. I mean its alot of money to me, and others who may not make much, but when i read how much she has won as a total, i thought thats not much. Again i dont know what poker players really make ( i am sure it varies )

1
djmdeath94•

That is her recorded tournament wins... Doesn't include poker rooms and private games, etc

2
kneelblender12•

Unless you think making $20k a year is "alot," she was not doing well at all.

A LOT of people think they can win at poker...but very few can sustain...

I don't think that was the motive. In fact, the feelings of her friends and family probably didn't even enter into the equation.

On second thought, the tainting of her memory is the least of the problems here. Somebody murdered this woman. Like in Homicide. Killed. Snuffed. Death. I think, in the big picture, that is the main issue.

No one is implying this to be the case.

No one is implying that her friends and families tainted memories are worse than her murder itself.

ChilaviekPauuk•

Well the commenter is probably saying that bringing up the tainted memories so explicitly kind of does imply, at least from a purely logical point of view, that it is the main tragedy or at least a tragedy on par with the loss of a young life.

And yes, that is a weirdish comment, but I do get the sentiment of not enjoying the act of bringing up less important though still horribly sad and infuriating matters when there is seemingly enough sadness around.

I was pretty sure my position was laid out clearly enough in my original comment. But after reading your reply I am having doubts.

You are oversimplifying a tad too much by putting me and the other poster on the same boat. All I said is that the comment wasn't as out of this planet as people seemed to interpret it as being.

I pretty obviously did not state that someone actually said it was on par with her death. I am not assuming anything, I simply gave an example of reasoning that may lead to such or similar assumptions. And it was based on the different amount of words in OP's paragraphs.

You also seem to imply that the later paragraphs are not a good place for the main ideas of a text. Which is weird. The last points made are very often the strongest and most significant.

But I definitely agree with your last sentence, although I am pretty certain I never opposed that idea.

1
yppiks123•

It might not be a "motive" but that is infact what happened. What is wrong with you?

3
SnooMacaroons1153•

I don't know. Upon hearing about the killing of someone I know, the lack of respect the murderer showed for the corpse after the killing isn't high on my list of concerns. Apparently I am all fucked up in the head.
