I feel like my family makes fun of me for being autistic

Hey all. First time poster but I wanted to get something off my chest and maybe see if others can relate.

Basically whenever I see my dad's side of the family it usually goes fine but when we get on the subject of food and what I'm going to eat. It always feels like they have to make a comment like "oh you going to have what you always have" I don't know if it's my difficulty with reading social cues and what not but it always feels super condescending. I just like my routines so what if I want to eat the same thing most of the time? I also feel like I'm being talked down to when I get on the subject of my special interests like anime or Yu-Gi-Oh even though I'm 22.

Any advice? Should I just come forward and explain that I find this upsetting? Thanks for reading.

It's hard to say what their intent is without hearing the tone. It could be making fun, but it could also be an attempt at suggesting you try something else without being too forward - not that I agree with that approach.

I would bring it up.

I dont think you should care so much about what others think. I understand the feelings these situations might give you yet if its a thing its a thing its not good nor bad it is you. And yes its a typical thing for us wich can be a bit funny sometimes yet who cares? I like a simple basic pizza margarita. Nothing special i will order it every time we go out for italian food and i dont care how others think about it. Ive ben acused of being cheap or boring. Do i care? No, if others have a problem with who i am thats there problem not mine ;)

Hope this properly shares my vieuw on the subject :)

I don’t have autism, but my moms side of the family STILL makes fun of me over something that happened when I stayed with them like 6 years ago. I was 14 and for some reason all I wanted to eat was French onion soup. To this day they still make me eat French onion soup even when the whole rest of the family is eating something else and still point it out on menus to me 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think it’s just some families sense of humor, if that makes you feel any better.

Autism aside, most families will pick at each other. Hard to know without being there but chances are it's just someone trying to interact with you. My dad says "if I'm picking at you, it means I love you. Be worried if I stop". Plus everyone has SOMETHING the family will pick on you for. If not your eating habits, it would be that random thing you did 10 years ago.
