A question before I decide to watch

DISCUSSION

So I've been wondering if I should get into the show with how popular it seems to be. But I gotta ask. From all, I've seen and heard about the fandom from an outside view the majority of the love of the show seems to be surrounded by the fact it's is filled with queer characters. While I have no problem with it and have a few queer friends which I care about deeply. I gotta ask if the show has anything to offer other than just the queer side of it. Does it have good humor? Good story? What about it do you enjoy other than the shipping? I just need to know a bit more about before I get invested.

Characterisation and character development is solid, i never got the feeling someone was acting out of character. Many jokes with good humor, which i still find extremly funny even after multiple rewatches. Good action, though i find that to be a weaker aspect of the series. Also some pretty deep themes like the feeling of abbandonment, child abuse, grief, or the negativ side of selflessnes. There are some things one could nitpick about, but in essence this show basicly did nothing truly wrong and is among the best television (not cartoon, television) i've seen in the last decade.

My favorite part of this show was the complex story paired with realistic character actions/reactions. The hero isn't perfect, the villain isn't an entirely evil person, the "good" side isn't all good and the "bad" side isn't all bad. Long term abuse and child soldiers make for broken leaders making choices that have negative consequences. Paired with the beautiful artistry and lovable characters, I found myself rooting for the villains as much as the heroes. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the shipping. But the story was good enough for me to question if my preferred ship was even a healthy pairing.

It has a very good story and characters in my opinion.

It's the best kids' show, arguably better than Steven Universe. So intensely emotional, dramatic and very funny. All the characters are relatable at some level, and all are unique and likeable. Even the villains.

Edit: ok actually Avatar The Last Airbender is the best cartoon, but She-Ra is also very good ^^

I watched the series with my two daughters (7 and 4 year old). What I really liked was how every side had their own motivation. It wasn’t really good vs evil. It had a really grown up theme. So it was good for the whole family. My kids loved the magic, jokes and action. I loved the story and recommend it to all my friends to watch.

In my opinion it’s a hilarious show with an amazing cast of characters and a great story.

Honestly the show does a great job because romance is probably the weakest genre. If you're worried about it all being about lovey-dovey stuff, don't worry because they only briefly touch on that stuff maybe like once a season? I can totally understand why you'd be worried since all the fanart is 95% ships (cough cough catradora).

The reason I think why people like the show so much is becauss it's very realistic about queer people - they're like, normal people. Them being queer isn't a personality trait. So it's mostly a fantasy adventure. It can be kiddish at times (like atla) buuuuuuuut I will also say they had a lot of doom and gloom moments.

I watched it without having a clue on what it was about -I just liked the color palette- and it’s not only solid, but like.. really really good. I’m not saying Avatar good, but surely Steven Universe good, it has ultra similar vibes to that. If you can forgive Adora’s outfit then I would most definitely watch it if I were you.

I wouldn't really compare it to steven universe. it might just be me really disliking that show but i just wouldn't compare the two.

Really? How so? I felt like it was similar on some aspects, it gave me the same vibe. But I’m talking more on personal sensations obv, so I don’t know, thinking on an analytical level you might be right

It's just that steven universe feels more like a slice of life than an actin adventure and none of the characters feel simaler. Also steven universe kinda gave a bad first impression to me steven was whiney and the characters were kinda bland.
