Problems with a Unifi AP / AP Long range

Hi /Ubuiquiti users

I hope one of you can help me with a problem I have with my purchase of a used Unifi AP / AP Long range.

I cannot connect / find the device on my network either via the discovery tool or through my USG. The LED blinks between off and amber every 4 / 6 seconds – this code is not listed on this list: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/204910134-UniFi-LED-Color-Patterns-for-UniFi-Devices

I’ve tried doing a simple reset, but this did not help.

I have tried re-flashing via TFTP. This worked but after the flash the device only blinks and never reboots. I’ve given it several hours, but nothing.

Did I just purchase a dud, and should I stop wasting my time on it? Or is there anything I have overlooked?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ps. Will post video of various sequences if it helps...

Are these the 'old' Unifi AP products? (not AC models)

It's an old non AC model

They may not be supported by the controller version you are running.

This is also what I thought. But when I look at devices connected to my network, the device dose not show up. It dose not request an IP and when I scan the network it dose not reply. The only contact I have had with it, is when I tried TFTP flashing.

According to ubiquiti's download page ( https://www.ui.com/download/unifi/unifi-ap ), they list the latest version of the controller software as supported.

On a side-note I also bought a square, this unit shows up in the latest controller software, but cannot be adopted. https://www.ui.com/download/unifi/unifi-ap-ac - on the download page they only list 5.6.42 as supporting the unit.

I'm having this issue too (with the old UniFi AP long range), though the light turns solid green, devices recognize the network, and perpetually attempt to connect in wifi settings. Could it be a permissions or SSID issue?

I had issues trying to adopt an old uap-lr a customer provided (they had bought before hiring me and couldn't get it setup).

It was still on firmware 2.x and nothing would find it. I had to ssh in and set-inform to my controller address to get it to be found by my controller. I'm guessing the old firmware can't be found by new controllers. After that or adopted and upgraded fine.

But it should switch to a solid light, but may be worth a shot.

Thanks I will definitely try that out. Do you think its possible to ssh in when its in TFTP mode? That is, so far, the only way I can connect to it...

The things that bothers me the most is that it's not getting an IP from my dhcp server. Has it one predefined? Besides that is strange that the blink signal, amber 4 secs, then off for 6 secs is not listed on the ubiquiti website (at least with my google skills :))

Reset it and then ssh to 192 .168.1.20 and do set-inform. Then adopt and upgrade via the controller.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I've figured it out. The AP is now working.

This is what I did to get it to work.

  1. Activate TFTP mode
  2. Download the oldest possible firmware from ubiguiti - version 3.7.58
  3. Uploaded / flashed the firmware via PumpKIN app
  4. Let the AP do its thing
  5. The AP is now present in my controller, where it gave me the possibility to adopt and upgrade
