Brand new spot twitching... Also have weak swallowing, four limbs extreme heaviness/weakness, loss of hands/toes dexterity (stiff hands and thenar atrophy as well), and weight loss of 5 lbs in 3 weeks.

It's like you've googled ALS symptoms, and have all of the onsets at once. ALS does not work like that at all. I would recommend trying to get to grips with your anxiety.

However If you are that concerned then you need to follow up with your doctors. If they didn't diagnose atrophy and you've somehow atrophied in the last three weeks then you need to see medical professional.

I guarantee he does not have thenar atrophy or tongue spasticity. A week ago he was worried that a change in his sneezing meant he had ALS for sure.

Like Revan said, get a hold of your anxiety.

I've seen a few posts like this recently. It's literally like they Google ALS, then find themselves having every symptom they find on Google. When the actuality is ALS doesnt start anything like that.

You are right that I don't have tongue spasticity/cramp, I always checked my tongue and don't see any twitching or spasm. What I do have is a strong tension pulling between my tongue and throat and muscle choking my throat. They don't show up vor disappear quickly but instead just tension getting worse gradually, then better, then worse and then better and so on. It is like they are consuming my throat muscle. I took some pictures of my hands a few weeks ago and now I can see they were slightly fattier back then, probably not "noticeably" per se but definitely differentiable.

If you don't have it then why do you claim to have it on your post. I have to agree with Revan that it sounds like you googled ALS symptoms and decided you have all of them.

You have thenar atrophy when a doctor looks at your hands and says you have thenar atrophy, no more no less. If you look at your hands and you are like "well they kinda sorta look a little smaller" that's not atrophy. Hands are not immune to change.

It is like they are consuming my throat muscle.

That conclusion makes no sense and it doesn't follow from your explanation of symptoms. And I don't know what you mean by "tension pulling between my tongue and throat and muscle choking my throat ".

Thanks for the kind advice! I forgot to mention that I have been having abnormal body temperature since January this year (37C - 37.7C, 98.6F - 100F) and general fatigue (got a big swollen lymph node on the neck that eventually went away) but no other symptoms were presenting. Though I had some hands dexterity issues early May which almost went away (90%) in a few days. It was around mid June when I felt something was off on the right side body and then twitching came on mid July and all the other symptoms following. I was so nervous that I got the Covid for a long time, but now I really wish what I got was Covid instead of what I am experiencing right now...

Get tested for tick-borne diseases (Lyme, Bartonella, etc.)

Don't wish you had Covid trust me I have awful BFS and pain, Covid is far more terrifying when it effects your breathing, trust me. Your almost certainly driven by anxiety. Try to resolve that first.

I had a few previous posts about my symptoms, anyway in the past weeks I have been getting tongue/throat spasticity, like being choked by my own muscles. Usually it would last a few hours to a half day and then come back a few hours or days later. Each time the spasticity ended I feel like my throat muscles are weaker. It is like I cannot feel my food when I swallow. Besides the throat problems, my hands are acting up too... No more smooth & fine motor control but jittery & slappy movements, as well as noticable atrophy on thenar and abductors. Now my left leg is also becoming weaker like my right did, especially above the knee and around the ankle. I don't know what the hell is going on right now.. I tried to ignore my symptoms and view them as anxieties but they are just getting worse despite my clear EMG from 2 weeks ago. I am lost!

Ugh I get that spot all the time. It’s such a weird sensation

Have you seen a neuromuscular specialist? He may be able to more specifically hone in on what’s going on. I hope things turn out okay— I know how hard it is when despite the clear test, you continue to have disconcerting symptoms.

I only went to the regular nueros in my citiy's hospital (though both the neuros and the hospital are considered some of the best in my province), at the time (3 weeks ago)I didn't have the symptoms I have now and plus the clear EMG so they weren't so concerned(They tested my reflex and tried to induce twitching, and all was normal). I have university starting in a few weeks which is in a much bigger city and has some of the best neurologists in the country. So now I am trying to hold on until then which is kind of miserable. I have been taking all kinds supplements and none helped...

I completely understand. The medical process is so slow. Additionally, the symptoms interfere with your day to day life and you’re concerned you have a serious condition. I know EXACTLY how you feel. Try your best to get your mind off it once you’ve taken necessary steps— I.e. make some appointments, jot down notes for the doctor, and then do other stuff. I know you’re worried, but worrying won’t help your mental health. If you want, you can PM me in about an hour (I have to drive home) to chat. I’d be more than willing to hear you out.

Appreciate the kind words, no one around me knows what is going on with me yet and I don't intend to tell until there is a clear conclusion and it just sucks to go through all these alone... (Though better not let anyone around worry)

If you have thenar atrophy you can start shit on your pants

Guys my guess is MS caused by covid 19 there’s been a spike with neurological problems since covid health care systems are reluctant to treat this as the strain it would put on the Healthcare systems is too much

-2
gamecatuk•

Utter bullshit. There is no link between MS and Covid.

fasterthatecer64•

If you really have thenar atrophy then you should buy a coffin lol Als is the on'y explanation for it

-8
fasterthatecer64•

Why I got downvoted, thenar atrophy is very concerning and a very strong symptom of als

-4
VN3•

Thenar atrophy can be caused by carpal tunnel which is a lot more common than als. So no.

3
Revan8653•

It's ridiculous and you know it. It's like saying someone who suffers from frequent headaches must have a brain tumour.

2
fasterthatecer64•

Thenar atrophy has very few causes compared to a simple headeache

-2
VN3•

You are still wrong though

2
Revan8653•

And yet pretty much all of them would be more common than ALS.

But keep on trolling and getting downvoted.
