I posted this last night, everyone hates it, as expected. Clearly we should just give billionaires like Alex Smith more money so he can build luxury apartments on every square inch of Baltimore City land and make it like Calabasas in this bitch. If you don't make $200,000/yr minimum you make this city dirty and ugly and you don't belong here.

Alex Smith hasn’t developed any properties.

Oh word? Who owns harbor east then?

It was his now deceased maternal grandfather that’s owns the Harbor East land and developed it.

Smith is 34, and his brother Eric, a co-owner of Atlas Restaurant Group, is 28. Together, they are the youngest restaurateurs in the country to own so many high-end dining establishments. In 2017 alone, they opened four eateries. By the end of 2019—with the planned spring opening of The Choptank, a stylish crab house in the south shed of the historic Broadway Market, the summer opening of a Latin fusion restaurant on the former site of the Four Seasons’ Wit & Wisdom, as well as third locations of Loch Bar and Ouzo Bay in Houston, Texas, and two new places inside the soon-to-be-built Moxy Hotel in Washington, D.C.—Atlas will employ more than 1,100 people. And the ambition doesn’t stop there. Smith’s long-range goal for 2020, he says, is to rack up $100 million in sales.

So would you say that he's what, a philanthropist? Lol.

Hunger Games With 11 restaurants and counting, Alex Smith, along with his brother Eric, is out to conquer the baltimore dining scene.

Chances are, even if you’ve only heard of Alex Smith, you have a strong sense that you don’t like him. And he’s well aware of what you think: private school lax bro, grandson of the late H&S Bakery billionaire and Harbor East developer John Paterakis Sr., and, more recently, owner of some of Baltimore’s trendiest, spendiest fine-dining restaurants, not to mention their sister spots in other states.

Nice! An oversupply of luxury apartments would either radically push the price down of a great housing or would pull in a lot of new residents radically increasing the tax base of the city.

Neo-Liberal Autonomous Zones >>>>>> CHAZ

That kind of investment in the city would be awesome!!!

Yeah! That's why it's so cheap to live in New York City and Los Angeles these days! Yassss please!!!

Wouldn't Baltimore be so much better if 300 ft² apartments were $2700/month? Then we could really get rid of all the poor people. https://www.zillow.com/b/235-w-22nd-st-new-york-ny-5XjKmz/

Shit, hopefully my landlord doesn't decide to give me a stainless steel fridge with an ice maker or something, then maybe he can make my rent $5000/month for my 700ft²!

Prices are a product of supply and demand. If they charged that much to live in Baltimore no one would rent them. Prices skyrocket in NYC/San Francisco because they refused to build enough housing to accommodate an increasing number of residents.

Developers build housing to make money.

And in SF in particular the residents did it to themselves. They actively prevented development that would have increased density, thus restricting the number of available units. So of course if lots of people want to live there, whomever has the most money is going to win.

Yeah, and they don't even have to put any money back into the city from which they took so much! Just seize and conquer my guy. Take tax dollars ----> profit -----> yacht, just like God intended.
