IIRC, Preece actually came out and said that due to sponsorship obligations that hadn't been fulfilled due to the delay, they couldn't/weren't able to run a throwback for the 37.

mcmustang51:x98b: Briscoe•

I dont think it looks bad. Nearly fits in with an old school vibe

27
thatoneprincesong:2e::37::x98::t23:•

Even though the schedule is all caught up? Maybe they threw them a couple extra dates for the lack of hospitality meet and greets?

3
ApocApollo:Logo: NASCAR•

Not obligations, they just didn’t have the time and resources to organize it this year.

2
shewy92:c20::10d::x98b::t21:•

So why can't Bush Beans do a throwback to this? Change the number font and maybe stylize the Bush Beans logo and you practically already have the scheme

1
kvapilnation:48b: Johnson•

Nah Stenhouse is throwing it back to when he wrecked here on the 1st lap

59
RotaryGunner•

Literally throwing it back

8
thehammer27:43f: Bubba Wallace•

Now that Darlington is in the playoffs for some reason, I've been wondering if we'll start to see fewer throwbacks over time. Playoff races are more valuable sponsorship wise, so I can't imagine sponsors would be just as willing to sacrifice their normal advertising for something less recognizable brand-wise.

24
RWStewart93:4: Harvick•

Although I understand this; NBC usually does a fantastic job at highlighting sponsors/throwbacks. They don't do it for companies who don't run throwbacks.

29
DIECASTCHARV:Charv::Champ::9b::9c:•

Nearly every car in the field this year is a throwback. Plus if you're not in the playoffs like these two I would think that's actually an incentive to run a throwback. Best chance of getting media attention while normally everyone is focused on those running for a championship

16
c_m_y_k:c24: Jeff Gordon•

“Media attention” isn’t worth what it once was. The few moments NBC may talk about your scheme is not worth as much as people want to believe it is. To most major brands (like the ones that JTG/Kroger partner with) consistency and clarity is important, that means no scheme change and no “throwback” logo change.

7
ThisNameIsNotProfane:Logo::18b::x98::t99b:•

Rick Ware schemes runs some of the best, original schemes all the time and gets 0 media attention out of it. It's a nice thought but that argument doesn't really hold water. Social media attention might be a different story, though.

5
c_m_y_k:c24: Jeff Gordon•

Social media attention is so fleeting that it really isn’t impactful without a full-blown campaign behind it, something that RWR and the smaller teams don’t have the resources for. It’s seen for a few hours or maybe a day, and then it’s gone.

3
Nas160:Champ: 2020 NCS Champion Chase Elliott•

That's why I try to add every single throwback in my albums. I want a place where people can admire all of them equally.

1
vatara6•

I'm sure there is a marketing scumbag out there that decided that BECAUSE they aren't in the playoffs and BECAUSE everyone else is also running a throwback, that actually not running a throwback gets them the most media exposure due to the negative attention

2
c_m_y_k:c24: Jeff Gordon•

There is no “negative attention”. This race is a blip on the radar for these “marketing scumbags”, it’s simply not worth their time.

3
c_m_y_k:c24: Jeff Gordon•

Yes. This will be the last year of officially sanctioned throwbacks. I am sure some teams may still do them, but it will become less of an emphasis to NASCAR’s marketing strategy.

1
MSJ2:21: DiBenedetto•

This really sucks. Being one of the only teams to not rock a throwback on throwback weekend shows you have stuck up sponsors or a stuck up owner. Or both

16
Terribad01:19: Truex Jr.•

So, just because they don’t “prioritize” one race out of the year, they are “stuck up?” LOL.

We’re in the midst of a global pandemic. Companies like Kroger are focusing their marketing efforts on promoting things like their safety initiatives, etc. They are under no obligation to do a throwback scheme. And they shouldn’t be lambasted for not doing one, especially this year.

15
Hillbilly098:c24::12::9::43:•

Geez. What a piss poor excuse. Promote safety measures? Yes, we need more advertising about masks and useless aisleway stickers. How did the other companies in NASCAR find time to come up with throwbacks?

3
Terribad01:19: Truex Jr.•

There’s more to a throwback scheme than just whipping one up and throwing a wrap on a car. Think of all the levels of approval it has to go through and the people that have to get involved (especially for the bigger teams with much more expensive sponsorship deals). Lawyers (for copyright purposes), marketing people (for all involved companies), agents, merchandise, etc. It involves a lot of coordination and effort for just one race.

And then there’s the pandemic. We have no right to criticize them at this point.

0
Hillbilly098:c24::12::9::43:•

Yet some 30 other companies pulled it off.

4
renees24:47: Stenhouse Jr.•

I totally agree.

1
Brendan370zz•

Bush's beans and Kroger have around long enough to not have a problem doing a throwback. These cars are the same as pre-pandemic so they aren't promoting safety initiatives.

renees24:47: Stenhouse Jr.•

A poster above posted this for why they are not and I think it goes for the 47 as well. IIRC, Preece actually came out and said that due to sponsorship obligations that hadn't been fulfilled due to the delay, they couldn't/weren't able to run a throwback for the 37.

4
Brendan370zz•

Ohhh okay my bad I was unaware of this.

1
ObjectivePrize8OP:47b: Stenhouse Jr.•

Weird because if memory serves right they have ran a Kroger And Bush throwback at some point in the past, they must be ready for the year to be over

13
Ryan_Holman:c7::x10::x98::21:•

Since the Darlington throwback started this has been how the team has had throwbacks:

10
ChrisBooscher:17c: Buescher•

Buescher had nothing last season on the 37 while preece did. Now neither jtg cars have anything.

3
renees24:47: Stenhouse Jr.•

The CGR aren’t doing one either, and the 17 doesn’t have one either. So it’s not just them.

That Baked Beans car is always a looker on the track. That specific color tone harkens back to the old Jack Ingram Oak Stove cars.

is there a scheme uglier than the 37??

1†
DustyHighgroove:JTG::vMville::c3::c28:•

I used to think that, but it looks great in person. One of my favorites throughout the year for them. It’s more copper than brown.

8
Cool_Interaction•

i believe you but on tv it literally looks like the color of bush’s baked beans lol

TheSewallSyrum:37b::8b::c24b::c99c:•

In person, the cars look much better. I remember the first time seeing how bright the Jasper and Tide cars were in person under the lights. The cars used to be brighter in the 90’s from what I’ve heard.

3
Cool_Interaction•

maybe because they still painted cars in the 90s rather than the vinyl wraps they do now?

2
DustyHighgroove:JTG::vMville::c3::c28:•

Haha. It does. And it looks even worse in the renders.

Disappointed that the 37 still won't run a Tide throwback, even if Tide isn't an actual sponsor.
