That guy was lying. The antelope was clearly not killed by the hippo.

Crazy. Did he do this to make the dogs less of an immediate threat to his pod? Or just to put the antelope out of its misery?
Hippos are very territorial and aggressive. Probably just killed the antelope because it was in it's territory. It would do the same to the dogs if they got too close.
Yeah, they just don't like shit going down in their territory and any sort of commotion. They treat crocodiles the same way and often mess around with the crocs if they kill something.
Ironically the hippo had originally saved the antelope from the wild dogs, but then after it got stuck in the mud the dogs wouldn't leave, so the hippo got angry about that and took his frustration out.
