Scanning and Repairing Boot 20 Hours

Open

It’s about a month old new Windows 10 install on a 3700x, Samsung Evo 970 m2, 64GB, 1070 build.

Friday while using my computer I got a Windows 10 notification saying there was some error detected with one of my drives. Everything was working perfectly fine up until this point and I was on a major work deadline so I ignored it, completed my work for the day and turned off the machine.

Saturday morning I go to boot the computer and I get “Scanning and Repairing (C:)...” with no percent being shown. I wait maybe 3 hours and this does not resolve itself and at no time does a percent completely appear. I then attempt to boot the computer in safe mode and no dice. I can get to the Windows recovery settings, press 5 to reboot in safemode with networking and all that jazz, but it does not work. It just reboots and goes right to Scanning and Repairing. At no time am I given an option to skip this.

I’ve left the computer to “Scanning and Repairing” for about the last 20 hours and nothing has changed, no percentage has ever popped up. Online help consistently shows a percentage on this screen.

Is my computer doing anything at all? What’s the next step here if this doesn’t seem to be doing anything? Is this usually a software or hardware problem? Is this just a Windows issue or is it possible my new drive is faulty?
