Stress on drivetrain with larger tires (33"-35") on a zr2

Hello all,

Just wondering if I can get some info on how vulnerable the stock drivetrain is when increasing the tire size. I've heard that 35" tires can overstress the axles. I'm wondering how true that is and how careful I should be. I'm looking to put bigger tires on my zr2 to increase clearance/traction on trails.

Thank you.

Unless you plan on putting on some sort of lift then you're not going bigger then 33".

Even with 33" you'll still need at least a level or plan on starting to trim some fenders in the front. Rear will be fine from the factory with 33's.

Any bigger then that and you're definitely removing some significant metal from the fenders.

That being said consensus on the forums is the ZR2 half shafts are good up to 35 and bigger and they're compromised. Plenty of data on this if you dig around.
