[Build Complete] My first build, finally :D

Well this has been an interesting experience. I wanted to upgrade my computer and after finding r/buildapc I had the motivation to build one completely. I found the main parts and information I wanted through looking at people's build ready posts, and found most of what I wanted through a mix of the fry's store next to my house and newegg. Once I got the parts and put them together, it didn't work at all. I felt defeated and couldn't figure out what went wrong. I asked for help and fellow redditor tito13kfm helped me isolate the problem by testing the PSU and slowly figuring out what wasn't working. It was the motherboard, so once I returned that and got a new one, everything worked fine...until it died after I restarted it. Using help once again by tito13kfm, I was able to figure out it was the graphics card and returned it and got a new one. After the switch, it finally all came together and works perfectly. Thank you all for your help, everyone gave me such valuable information and this was a real learning experience for both myself and my girlfriend who was learning with me. I had plenty of issues throughout the build, but getting it all together without the help of experts made it all so much better. http://i.imgur.com/auAFE.jpg

Use imgur for pictures. That imageshack nonsense won't load.

Awesome, looks pretty clean, is there not a shield that goes around the PSU?

To be completely honest, I don't know. Should I look for it/buy one if necessary? Like I said, this is my first build so there are probably things that I'm forgetting. I also looked into cable management after my first motherboard was dead, I thought it might make it easier, I did fall into the trap of shoving bunch of wires into an empty slot though, you can kind of see it under the Harddrives

Well those cables is what I was seeing, I don't really think it does much, but in my case there is a front shield where you can tuck those cables where they won't be seen. Other than that and keeping those USB Headers and HD Audio Headers out of your PSU if the fan doesn't have a good shield, it really doesn't do much. If you are happy with it, I wouldn't worry lol

Amazing story. I am in the process of buying and building my first PC and if it didn't start twice, I would feel so defeated. Glad you kept with it and you found incredible support from tit13kfm, what a cool guy. Is that the Cool Master HAF 912 case?

That looks like a lot of RAM.

Nice build though.

haha yea. There was a shellshocker deal for 16 gigs of ram, totally unnecessary, but at the moment it seemed important to me
