Qwant Thoughts
Have you heard of the search engine - Qwant?
It’s french and meant to protect your privacy not track your history. Sounds similar to DuckDuckGo.
Any preference?

cool. Thanks for mentioning uMatrix: a firewall that allows you to switch every kind of connection your browser makes on a webpage on or off. This includes Javascript, cookies, and plug-ins.
As someone who understands only little of technology, is this bad?
I've been using it for more than a year and i don't speak French
Cool. Happy to see. Thanks for the tip!
Qwant has many management issues, and the future of the project is not looking good. Qwant crawlers are not that efficient and many results still come from bing. DDG results seems more accurate to me. source (french) : https://www.lemediatv.fr/articles/2020/revelations-qwant-boulet-detat-z-DwVYPzQymrJjlldr8t4g
From a privacy point of view, both are great i think.
merci beaucoup for the backgound on Qwant management. Interesting on the crawlers' efficiency, and how it's related to bing. Good to know about DDG
AFAIK ddg only serve Bing results. Qwant has its own crawlers and algorithm to index website. It only uses Bing to complete the results.
I found Qwant search to be a bit too dependant of your location, so it gives often poor results if you use VPN and change countries a lot.
As for ddg, it is decent when you search simple stuff, but fails to provide useful stuff when you look for precise or complex things.
Privacy wise both are equally good imo. Their business model is to serve ads basdd on context and not user data, so they are only interested in the search term. They do not even keep your IP.
Thanks for a comprehensive overview. Cool to see Qwant has its own crawlers and algorithm to index websites. Interesting the search is dependent on your location.
Like you, I've found ddg works well for a simple search.
Glad, privacy-wise, both are reasonable. I like their business model, and practice of not keeping your IP, too.
