I mean this in the best way possible

I wasn't really paying close attention at the time because my toddler was climbing all over me. I look up and see Herbert taking the field and was like, "Daaaamn, Tyrod did so bad that they're already starting Herbie?" I was excited but also kinda felt bad for feeling that way once I found out Tyrod had to go to the hospital.
Yeah I was just looking at my computer when Romo in a surprising voice said Herbert was in to start. That's when I shifted mood from expecting a blowout and ready to only half pay attention to full investment. Of course it turned into a classic Chargers loss and disappointment but at least Herb looked good
I'm not in the least bit disappointed about yesterday. Sure we didn't walk away with a win on the stat sheet but we saw a lot out of this team that I would consider the most important win we have had in years. First off, Herbert is still raw but looks GREAT from what we saw of him yesterday all things considered. The kid was told 10 seconds before kickoff he was going to get the start and came out SWINGING. And let's not forget about the defense. The pressure the D-line was bringing all game was incredible and Tillery looks like he finally turned the corner. And then there's the team we played...bro we took the Super Bowl champs to OT, that's pretty fucking crazy when you keep it all in perspective
I was like... Man, Tyrod looks white in this light. Then I heard Tony Romo and was like OH
I also noticed it first as “wait, the QB is white, who is that?”
I near damn had a heart attack. I couldn't believe my eyes.
Was chilling before I had to go somewhere and figured I had 20 mins to watch us get pummeled. Pulled the game up and saw Herbert was in and immediately thought “Oh I guess we’re using him for a gadget play or something.” Then he stayed under center and I freaked out in a good way
I fucking love that feeling when a team rolls surprise shit that the media never even mentioned leading up to the game. My jaw was open that entire first drive.
Two other times I had that feeling: 2008 when the Dolphins ran Wildcat all game to beat the Patriots. 2012 when the Redskins ran the Baylor offense with RG3 to beat the Saints in Week 1.
This wasn’t as dramatic of a sneak attack, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Really wish the Chargers could’ve pulled off the upset.
Man, if they had won that game it would have been such a storybook debut for Herbert. Starting QB goes down minutes before kickoff, and the 1st round rookie takes the reigns and leads his team to victory over their division rival SB champions.
It was so close to that storyline. We got a good one.
I was out of cell service, drove home so I wasn't looking at my phone, put on the game like 8 minutes through the 1st quarter and saw that we were winning at the moment and that Herbert was starting. I was disoriented for like 5 minutes while I was looking stuff up trying to figure out what happened.
I had no idea what was going on because they finished up the Bills/Dolphins game and joined our game in progress. I assumed Tyrod started and got hurt or pulled out.
I was driving to my friends house after the Denver/Steelers game finished up and didn't think I'd miss much of the chargers game. Showed up, they said "Looks like your boy Herbert got in for a play" we all thought he was just in for a gadget play.
Nope, I was so stoked seeing him out there slinging it.
I had my eyes on who was matching up with Kenan at first. I heard the cadence, thought it was a little weird, then I actually noticed it wasn't even Tyrod lmao
The first play happened so fast I didn’t even notice, for a second my mind thought they ran a trick play with tyrod at wide receiver or something and JH snapped it. Then I noticed he stayed in and called the next play. And from there my jaw dropped onto the floor for the entire drive before I could pick it up.
I flew off the couch when I saw it was him, and then when he ran it in for the TD I lost it. Adrenaline rush for most of the game after that.
Same. I didn’t even notice after the first play, then I saw the quarterbacks face. Oddly enough, my first thought was. “Tyrod has some bad acne today.”
“Tyrod is white now?!”
To my wife - “Holy fuckballs, it’s Herbert!”
I was trying to keep an optimistic mindset but that quickly faded. Then I watched the game and thought O SHIT! He’s actually GOOD!
I was listening to the radio broadcast on my way home to watch the game. When they said Herbert was starting instead of Tyrod I couldn't believe it. I was so excited, thinking that Tyrod had done so bad that he was going to be benched but then they said he was hurt and I felt bad.
I had just finished a blunt and the chargers game was about 30 mins away from starting. I put on the bucs game in the meantime and ended up knocking out for like 45 mins. When I woke up and put the charger game, there was 12 mins left in the 1st quarter and I saw JH in. That was my exact reaction when I saw Herbert in 😂
I was at work so I had to call my wife to record the game for me the whole time I was freaking out checking the score every couple of minutes

When they said Tyrod was out for "chest pain" I was like, damn "Dude sufferring from a broken heart after being told they was starting the rookie".
I kept telling my wife, "This is amazing, but I am not mentally prepared for it!"
i thought it was a trick play tbh
So true. I almost didn’t watch the game and saw that, almost fell off the couch. 🤣
Same, I was meh towards this game and was going to watch because hey it's football and that's my team but didn't expect much at all and prepared myself for a beat down. But then Herbert comes trotting on the field and my adrenaline went through the fucking roof and I was all in!
Same here. I've been watching the morning Colts games for dad and tyrod just isn't very exciting since we already know his ceiling. I thought I'd just catch the fourth quarter of the Charger game and was like, "oh shit, Herbert's playing!"
