i...kind of like the commitment to insanity here? and the turret facing, while illogical, doesn’t look as cheap as it could be. IDK.

Same. At least the rocks look like real rocks embedded in concrete (or something), instead of some prefab veneer stuff.

I too wish to enter my house through a turret foyer (making sure to pronounce that foy-yeh).

I could think of shabbier ways to do it

zzzerb•

If I could crop this photo to just the door and entranceway, it would look like a cute little hobbit house.

But I can’t, so now I’m stuck looking at Lord of the Rings, but Bilbo is a retired coal miner from New Jersey.

Made tons of money as a union worker, now certain that it’s the unions that are ruining America

Ooooh, nice!

burntends97•

Bilbo currently has black lung

This is how the Sackville Baggins would have renovated Bag End.

CommitteeOfTheHole•

I’m getting more Long Island vibes, but I’m with you on the rest of it.

Maybe an electrician rather than coal miner, though.

I hate Mansards. They look like a house with a bowl cut.

84
killswithspoon•

They'll always remind me of low-rent apartments in the sketchy part of town.

44
LauraMcCabeMoon•

Ah yes, the 60s and 70s obsession with neo-Tudor and neo-French architecture overlapping with shoddy construction, low ceilings covered in texture, shag carpeting, fluorescent kitchen lighting, and crappy aluminum windows.

Now name it the Something-Something Arms and make sure it has poor insulation between the shared walls.

This is huge tracts of housing in California

4
Covered_1n_Bees•

Literally lived in a college shithole with “mansard” in the name and a hideous mansard roof to match.

6

Saw one through the trees once, hated it.

21
Specific_Northwest•

Damn those eaves and their salty messages!

12
couldbeworse2•

Yadda yadda garbage and concrete

5

And the ground beneath my death was made out of hot garbage and concrete

4
meregnorth•

Great, now I have that song irreparably stuck in my head

Mansard can me beautiful. not this though this cannot be saved

10
holycannoliravioli•

This has perfectly adjectivised my feelings about this monstrosity.

2
film_composer•

For what it's worth, I have notably bad taste, but I kind of like the look of this one.

71
alliabogwash•

This is definitely a case of "this is hideous and I love it" for me.

63
steph929•

Same. I want to see the inside.

12
[deleted]•

I like a lot of the individual pieces, but when I look at it as a whole it just doesn't flow well

8
flea1400•

Realtor listing. The inside is dated as hell, complete with 1970s kitchen cabinets. https://www.remax-quebec.com/en/house-for-sale-mauricie/460-rue-bedard-st-georges-11997532.rmx

shinkouhyou•

That's actually one of the cuter turrets I've seen. At least they tried, instead of just making a stucco tube.

18
Jedi_Ewok•

Idk that house looks like it was pretty blah to begin with. It's like when I put aftermarket rims on my PT Cruiser; sure it's no prize winner but it's not getting any worse.

15
meckyon•

I live for the specificity in this sub hahaha

9
gramapislab•

if that's the only turret, I like it!

10
whiskeyinmyglass•

The plastic Walmart mailbox 6 inches from the door is a nice touch.

7
converter-bot•

6 inches is 15.24 cm

7
Avee82•

Well, shit. I like it.

7
optimusdan•

This makes me want to listen to Mort Garson and watch the Rankin-Bass cartoon version of LOTR.

7
haako40•

Are the stones spaced too far apart of is that just me? It makes the turret (serving as the focal point) look all nubby rather than made out of stone.

5
Drycabin1•

Ah, Dairy Queen meets Disney World. I feel like I died and went to Heaven.

5
Coomstress•

Looks like a Disneyland gift shop.

3
Th3Trashkin•

Definitely has that "modern commercial building with period theme decoration slapped on" look.

2
opaul11•

I don’t hate it as much as modern versions but I still do not like

2
randomperson0810•

Its like "yeah its pretty nice, kind of basic, but nice" and then " eeeeeHHHHHEEEHHH EH EH HEEE WiZarDs tOwER!!!!!!! "

2
DirtyDownWinders•

I love it

2
tiddymctitface•

I don't hate it

2
TrashPandaPatronus•

Suburban Jersey accent: "Hon, I think the new neighbahs ahh hobitses er sumpthin"

2
Th3Trashkin•

So there's obviously no way this house was initially built with that turret, right? You gotta wonder the kind of conversations the homeowner had with friends and family about the big dumb turret they glued onto the front of the house.

2
Montana4th•

I really like the house minus the turret
