r/Drugs AMA series: Mescaline
Next up for most requested drugs in our poll of redditors, we open the doors of perception and let redditors ask about mescaline.
First synthesis: 1919 by Ernst Späth (identified 22 years earlier by Arthur Heffter). However, much like DMT in South America, mescaline has been used in peyote form for millennia by indigenous tribes in Mexico.
Intended use: No intended uses in the medical sense of the term. Mescaline's only use thus far is as an entheogen and recreational drug.
Current research into medical applications: None.
Legality: Illegal across the board, though peyote itself is in a legal grey area in a handful of countries [just ask your local head shop in Canada ;) ].
