Walking Rhode Island

Me and my dad have had this idea to walk the whole state. We’d prefer to be on nature trails. Does anyone have suggestions as to where we can start? I can’t find anything that describes a whole state trail.

The North/South trail is 78 miles long and can be broken up into sections. There is some information about it here: https://thetrek.co/rhode-island-north-south-trail-78-miles-atlantic-ocean-massachusetts/

This is the best way to do it.

You can use all trails to look up the routes, a lot of them do travel partially on roads, but they have gorgeous spots in between.

In addition to the North South trail, the Washington Secondary Bike Path takes you from Cranston out to the CT border, walkers are welcome.

Look up the North South trail. There's posts and YT vids about it .

Awesome thanks. I always thought a full state trail would start in westerly for some reason

That would make sense wouldn't it!?

Just a fair warning a good bit of this down the southern end is on roads. While I totally understand the challenge and have done it myself, it really isn't that enjoyable other than the challenge itself. If the point is to get the excersize and enjoy the experiance I would highly recommend just setting a total miles goal for a period of time and doing various hikes elsewhere.

Side note: Next year you could try the Midstate Trail. We did another challenge three years ago to make it from New Hampshire to Rhode Island in a three day weekend. This challenge was much more difficult but slightly more enjoyable. I would recommend south to north it both states, they are far nicer on the northern sides of the trails and give you more of a new england feel.
