That all-white look....oh my.

I like the retro interlocking UN (0:41 in the twitter video). I understand that the branding and marketing department would want to distance themselves from the folks up in Reno, but I would like to see more of it. I also wonder, since Las Vegas is such a unique place, what the pros and cons are of leaning into it as part of the University's brand. You'd think it'd be a draw, particularly transfers (both athletes and non-athletes) who are over 21 or soon will be. Yet, UNLV is one the few "acronym schools" (along with UTEP and a few others) that doesn't go all in on the city name, at least for athletics.

My favorite part about UNLV is how much they hate UNR, going so far as to never call the other school "Nevada," always either "Nevada-Reno" or some variation. I fucking love it, I wish more schools would proudly do that.

Can you imagine a world were the official promotional material from UCLA referred to their sister school as UCB? Or where UAB called the Tide "Alabama-Tuscaloosa"? It's beautiful.

Of course, you need to have some power, or be on some kind of equal footing, to pull it off. Which is why UCLA and UNLV could do it, but probably not UTEP or UAB.

The balls if UAB did it though. Imagine if Bama was on a "down" year and UAB had a really strong team and they just called them Alabama-Tuscaloosa. It would be shots fired.

It used to be called UNR up north, too. It really wasn't until recently that it started to be called just "Nevada".

With four helmets, three jerseys and two sets of cleats, UNLV's new look includes at least 180 possible combinations for game day.

That math does not check out... unless they have 7.5 different options for pants to choose from.

20
meatfrappe:harvard: :medal: Harvard • /r/CFB Top Scorer•

Actually it does check out if you allow “no helmet” as a helmet option, “shirtless” as a jersey option, and “barefoot,” “one shoe on and one shoe off,” “one cleat from each pair,” and “shower slippers” as a footwear options. Maybe that’s how they calculate it.

.5 pants are shorts, so they’re innovators it seems

Wearing .5 pants is either totally fine (weather permitting) or very inappropriate depending on which .5 you wear.

I personally prefer the .5 on my calves to keep them warm, but to each their own

Gotta keep the right leg free for kicking

It checks out if they have two sets of pants and you let them turn their jerseys and/or pants inside out.

Those grey/silver numbers on the white are going to be a nightmare for SIDs and TV/radio talent who are calling games.

These are pretty nice uniforms, but my biggest knock on them is having silver numbers on the white jerseys. I think it would look better and also be more legible with red numbers.

Artvandelay29:vanderbilt: :southcarolina: Vanderbilt • South Carolina•

It seems that it’s a school color, but they’re gonna be rough on TV. UNLV maybe is using the silver numbers to get ‘croots to give fire/snowflake/100 emojis in descriptions of them.

linclion31:pennstate: :btn: Penn State • Big Ten Network•

It's definitely good that it's at least a school color (as opposed to some schools that just use gray/silver for the sake of doing so and being trendy), but you make a great point about the ability to read them on TV and the emojis XD

CommodoreN7:arkansas: :utah: Arkansas • Utah•

They’re gonna look awesome only running bubble screens and running up the gut on offense with Marcus Arroyo leading them..... just like Oregon did the last few years :(

I've always thought UNLV had unlimited potential. Great location, lots of potential sponsorships, strong TV market and population...but, they just never really panned out in football.

2
holytrolly_:westvirginia: :vcu: West Virginia • VCU•

The market is strong but people in Vegas themselves are largely apathetic toward UNLV from my limit experience in the city. So many people who live in Vegas aren't from Vegas. It's a lot like Washington DC that way, on a smaller scale when you account for suburbs.

I think that was a concern for the Raiders, too, but their brand is so strong I think it mitigates it. Plus, so much of the Raiders fanbase is around southern California that it's probably easier for them to get to Vegas for games than it is Oakland, and an NFL game in a badass glitzy stadium is yet another awesome attraction for a weekend Vegas getaway. UNLV doesn't command that kind of attention.

holytrolly_:westvirginia: :vcu: West Virginia • VCU•

Those are sharp. I like the chrome facemasks. You're in Vegas, be flashy and go big. I would love to see UNLV get their act together and be competitive. That would be so fun.

The red helmet/red jersey/white pant look is my favorite. I really like them overall, minus the anthracite helmet.
