"Well-placed sources have confirmed that the Blues don’t have an interest in the out-of-contract Collingwood star."
Oof.
Good move from Carlton. Dodged a bullet I reckon.
All of their signings for some reason just feel very Brisbane 2010 to me so far and that would have been the icing on the cake.
Really??? I’d loooooove to read your Brisbane 2010 v Carlton 2020 offseason comparison
Not a great season
Lingering off-field issue
COVID-19 reducing clubs revenues
High price tag
oof
Does any one want him other than Collingwood? Not hearing his name linked to many others.
If he dropped his asking price I’m sure they would, but (by all reports) he’s going hard after cash in a year that didn’t warrant it
If he had gone bananas once switched into the midfield this year then I reckon he could’ve justified what he’s asking for, but for now he was just serviceable when playing major minutes there and it’s asking a whole lot of any team to roll out bags of cash for an impact forward with potential to be a quality mid
If he thinks he's better than the money being offered, then he must also know that everyone around him doesn't think his performances would justify what he's asking. You don't get paid on potential. And he surely must understand that his legal issues are a big red flag.
The way I read it, he'll take the best contract he can get at Collingwood, because no one else is willing to touch him. All this current speculation is an attempt at jumping his price up. A poor one, considering it really takes a well connected player manager to do this successfully. No one seriously thinks his old man can get him top dollar at Carlton.
If hes smart, he'll take a shorter contract at okay money to stay at Collingwood, and once he's around 26-27, hopefully with some real runs on the board and consistent performances, he can go for the 5 star deal he wants. If he's even smarter, he'll negotiate some performance incentives to get Collingwood on side, some extra motivation for himself, and a bit of a sweeter deal should he play the footy he thinks he's capable of.
Bombers apparently
Apologies in advance if you boys have to deal with Dodo :(
Yeah come to the Bombies mate. We'll have cash for you and you can be best buds with Stringer - then the two of you can toss a coin on who kicks 3 goals and who doesnt touch it all game.
Massive price tag, COVID-19 financial stress and looming off-field problem aren't a good mix.
Nope
I read that as Collingwood and got interested for a second
Good.
Phew.
I thought it was the De Goey camp that was driving the Carlton initiative rather than the other way around. None the less, he might generate some interest from Essendon, but I'm not sure that's a huge compliment right now
Agents (or in this case his dad) are well served to generate market interest.
I imagine a conversation was started, the asking price and length was confirmed, the Blues management went away to review if it could be done and have not found a way to swing the deal so are pulling out.
thank god don’t want a women abuser
De Goey, 24, has been linked to Carlton amid widespread conjecture over his playing future.
It’s understood the player himself was open to the possibility of exploring a switch to Princes Park, but the Blues have been busy elsewhere in the trade space under the guidance of list management boss Nick Austin and national recruiting manager Mick Agresta
I mean they are trying to bring in Saad, Zilliams, and probably a 3rd player we don't know about so that's probably true
When this seemed to be a thing, I couldn't work out how the Blues could possibly get both the Saad and DeGoey trades done, given what the Bombers and us would each be demanding. Saad and Williams would be a solid trade period.
I think JdG is going to come away disappointed from this whole affair.
Not only does he have the sexual assault charge hanging over him like the Sword of Damocles, he had the not very thinly veiled criticisms of him as a player in the press by Pendlebury, who doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to say that stuff lightly, and Bucks (who is more likely to).
Not sure many people will open the cheque book for him and let him choose wherever he wants to play based on his mood.
I love what he can do on the field, but he doesn't produce it nearly enough to merit a mega contract. I obviously hope this ends up with him staying at the Pies on a reasonable contract and obviously being exonerated of his sex offence allegations. But if he wants a ridiculous salary, I'd prefer we prioritise Moore, Daicos and Mihocek over him.
Compare him to Liam Ryan and what he is likely to be getting paid.
Think that's a fair take. He's worth a reasonable contract, nothing mega.
What did Pendles say about him? I must've missed it
https://www.triplem.com.au/story/scott-pendlebury-on-a-potential-new-role-for-jordan-de-goey-161882
“With Jordy [de Goey], it sort of ebbs and flows a bit,” Pendles said.
“If he’s forward and he’s getting a lick of the ice-cream then he likes to stay forward… if he comes to the midfield and we’re doing alright he thinks it’s all his doing in the midfield.
“If the ball’s not coming forward he pretty quickly tells us he wants to come into the midfield."
Yeah that's a good thing. Did we all forget he's on trial?
Well that was a fun 5 days
Not that I ever really expected it, felt a lot like Blues interest was a negotiation ploy for the De Goey camp
According to Damo, Carlton were only interested for a certain price. I’m guessing they’ve asked for more and Carlton have decided against it which is probably for the best considering the other big money moves they’ll be making
It'd be damn near impossible to bring in 3 players making $650k+ in a single off-season
Agree. I actually think De Goey would be a great fit at Carlton but Saad and Williams are more “ready made” players, so you’ve probably got less risk on your investment there
I agree. If the AFL trade landscape had a bit more fluidity and Dodoro made a deal for Saad immeasurably painful I could envision a world where the club switched focus to De Goey part way through the trade period. In the current system it's not really an option.
But it also puts a lot of faith in Nic Newman returning to pre-injury form, and his leg injury was pretty nasty
/wipes brow. Thank you Carlton.
Meh I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if he went to the Bombers or elsewhere. Has his moments, but hasn't been really good since 2018 (pretty much all the team really)
Great way for SEN to write 17 articles over the next week as they rule out each club then he re-signs with the pies on a lot less money.
Jordain't De Going
Sure he is, just not to Carlton
#prisonbars2021
I don't think Port would have the cap space.
Jordan DeStaye
Yay
Thank god. Is an awesome player but is way too big of a risk to take on.
Maybe it's just me, but I find it very strange that these articles completely ignore that De Goey has been charged with sexual assault. Seems like a big fucking deal that should not just be ignored, either in the media or in contract negotiations.
Literally no club is going to be like ‘sure he might be in prison next season, but let’s sign him anyway!’ Absurd that these articles don’t mention that elephant.
But he kick football good, so no ones talking about it. Disgraceful.
I read the first part of your post like a caveman. You should have ended it there.
Haha he done kick ball good so be bad is ok
Allegedly be bad.
Tbf that didn't save Sam Burgess or Paddy Jackson.
Until the trial, signing him is a risk and I'm sure clubs are aware.
Could work out well for Collingwood due to the lack of interest (assuming nothing comes from the trial).
The committal hearing is between Grand Final and trade week.
I did put my tin foil hat on an wonder if that was deliberate
tin foil at
*hat, thanks
