List of similarities between Sona / Sera

Design:

  • Extremely long, non-natural (or just anime) color hair
  • Floating
  • Using flying object as "weapon" with design focused on front
  • Music theme (of course)
  • Ultimate skin has 3 forms (wow the NEW technology is stunning)
  • Base skin being magic-based and the ultimate being pretty much set in modern times, even outside of Runeterra
  • Conventionally "good" body type
  • Most likely young

Skills:

  • No dash/blink
  • Skillshot R with pretty much the same effect of hard CC, from the preview it seems that the duration is very similar
  • Speed boost, heal, shield and slow in the base kit
  • Everybody's favourite 3-hit passive, but this time you need to cast 3 spells, and only then you get the payout

Yeah, "she plays differently and is skillshot based", that doesn't mean that there is way too many similarities between Sona and Sera. Also, "we have several fire mages", that may be true, if there weren't only two, Brand and Annie, and both are as different as they can be (which proves that they can make multiple X-based champions and make their design completely different as well as making their gameplay distinct). "2 samurais", wow yes, just as people said when we saw Yone for the first time and it boiled down to "Yasuo but edgier", but AT LEAST his design, even if just edgy AF and Yasuo-with-2-swords, is different. This isn't the case of Yasuo and Yone, as lore-wise they are brothers, so making their kits similar makes sense.

They also seem to think that people will play her mid. That's true, until they nerf her for her kit being simple and easy to use while being effective at what she is supposed to be doing (dealing damage), and force to go support, for what they are already prepered by giving her profits off buffing allies.

Yeah, I'm not angry at Riot for making a new champion that is very similar to an old one. The problem is that she just seems to be doing everything that Sona does, but better. Well, we will see. New Volibear is less similar to old Volibear than Sera is to Sona.

Yeah almost feels like riot wanted to integrate a certain number of new champ this year and added sona’s rework as a champ who suited perfectly kda event and their marketing strategy. If i don’t like i won’t play her okay but yea, feels bad for every player liking sona and to constently add new champs when we need champ reworks rather than more champ.

Couldn't be explained better.
