Looking to upgrade processer, need some suggestions and advice

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to upgrade my processer this fall. I'd like something a little beefier as the original build was on a tight budget. I am currently running the following:

ASUS Z97-P LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Quad-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 1150 84W BX80646I54590

Rosewill ARC Series 450W Gaming Power Supply, 80 PLUS Bronze Certified, Single +12V Rail, Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready - ARC-450

DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 CPU Air Cooler 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan with Blue LED, Multi-platform Intel/AMD CPUs (AM4 Compatible)

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 24GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Recently upgraded to a 1050 Ti for cheap as well

Ideally, I would like to upgrade the processor with as little need for change as possible. Is there a worthwhile option for that motherboard that I can grab? Will I need a different CPU fan as well? Maybe a bigger power supply?

I generally don't upgrade my machines, usually I just gut them and make a new build but I'm happy enough with everything else that I'd like to just make some small upgrades instead.

Thanks in advance!

Not really worth spending money on such an old build.

used 4790k i guess? 4770k if you can't find that? although unless you find one for ~100 (or even <150) i think you should save up more to get a new platform like 3100/b550 or 10100 (10100f)/b460 and 16gb of ddr4 ram. besides that, there's not really anything else to get. t

cooler/psu is probably fine.

Is there a motherboard and cpu combo that would work with the memory I have so I don’t have to replace that?

nope. there is no better gaming cpu than the 4790k/4770k that supports ddr3.

Okay, so let's go backwards a bit then. Is there a CPU/MB/RAM set up that will work with my current CPU cooler, power supply, and video card? Maybe in the neighborhood of $400 total? for the 3?

r5 3600, b550-a pro, and 16gb of 3600 cl18 ram should be great. pcpartpicker should help.

if you want to spend less, you could downgrade the motherboard to something like a b550m pro vdh wifi. you could also downgrade cpu to the 2600 or 3100 - the 2600 performs about the same as the 3100 in gaming and has more cores but costs $25 more most of the time. both are like 15% behind the 3600 in gaming i think?

edit: also the 2600 does not work on x570 so you could save costs further by getting a b450 motherboard instead like a b450m pro4 or b450-f

connections and standards from motherboard to the rest of the system have stayed the same for years so it'll all work fine.
