I made this short film by editing footage I had no specific intention to use that I had shot on my phone during these last few month in Lebanon.
But, when I had one week to submit a short film for my MA in cinema while the circumstances we were going through weren’t favorable to do a more professional shoot, I decided to edit everything I had shot with my phone and try to create a storyline that reflects both life in Lebanon and my own.
After transferring everything to adobe premiere, I was faced with almost 6 hours of rushes. I cleaned them up till I was left with 40 min. In 2 days, I edited these 40 min into an 8 min short film that I submitted to my university and got very positive critique on from the MA’s jury.
This last week I continued editing for my own satisfaction and came up this final result.
If you have any questions, whether specific, technical or general, please feel free to ask in the comments below.
Thank you for documenting all of this in the past months. I'm an undergraduate student documentary filmmaker in central Florida, US. This is a poignant showcase of experiences. I'm fascinated with your sound design - how/why did you decide to use (what sound to me like) piano keys to cut between many of the clips? I hope you will take some time to research film festivals and submit this piece. I wouldn't change anything about it. Thank you for sharing it with us.
They are indeed piano keys, at this point cutting with a piano note is somehow becoming my signature in editing my own work. I experimented with it while doing my undergraduate degree and came up with satisfying results. In a way to answer the why? question, i can say because it feels right like this, for me at least while editing. I mostly edit relying on my instinct, and simply if it feels right then it's right :p
I highly appreciate your comment, it made me hopeful and excited to do more stuff.
and for the festivals submission part, i agree that i should go for it, hopefully next week i will be able to take some time off from work and start looking for some festivals.
And again thank you for your comment and thank you for watching.
