What Do You Feel Is The Ideal Class Story-wise RP?
So hear me out. I think its fairly agreeable that the 3 primary classes of Skyrim are Warrior, Mages and Thief. Nords are the main inhabitants of Skyrim and primarily melee fighters, the Dragonborn I always thought was seen as more warrior focussed. But when you look at Skyrim's story arcs they seem better suited for mages, thieves then lastly warriors.
Main Quest: Melee weapons against Dragons that can fly. Poor dragon AI aside, being a melee fighter against one just isn't ideal great. You can argue the dragons pride compels them to fight on ground, but that just seems like nonsense. Mages and thief's seem much better suited to being either a mage or thief.
Dawnguard: Melee is fine here sure, but vampires fall into the realm of the mythical and inherently magical beings with many being mages themselves. Mage I feel gets the better over warriors just being able to blow flames from your hands. Thief is pretty solid here too given the human hunter vibes you get against vampires or doing the hunting as one. Warriors make sense sure, but they don't they stand out for me like the other two do.
Dragonborn: I mean Hermaeus Mora doesn't care for strength, he's all about knowledge which is the realm of a mage. The story is so heavily mage based, gaining knowledge to use it against Miraak effectively. Warrior does better than thief here, being able to match Miraak's ability as a fighter, but Miraak and his cultists especially are mostly magical.
Mages Guild: Well mage obviously wins hands down, though ironically you can complete it without firing a single spell. Warriors do fine in the game sure, but story wise it doesn't really match up well at all. The thief seems more of a stealthy dungeon diver in pursuit of knowledge and for that reason alone makes more sense than the courageous, hearty warrior.
Companions: Warrior out and out. You're the champion fighter, you go in beat your enemies and come out, it's that simple. Definitely mages weakest story arc. You're massively out of place. Thief does well here given the theme is around lycanthropy and those light fighting skills like stealth, archers, one-handed swordsmanship make solid additions to the Companions.
Thieves Guild: The Thief is the obvious choices, but mages who have a mastery of illusion are just as present. They're a bit out of place in the den sure, but I feel like they have tricks and tools that the thief's wouldn't. Warrior is really out of place here. *insert Wakanda "We don't do that here" meme*
Dark Brotherhood: The Thief style takes the cake here and it almost goes hand in hand with guild, but mage is fairly solid against mostly thanks to the school of illusion. Warrior again doesn't seem to fit the theme Arnbjorn wouldn't agree.
Anyone else feel that the Dragonborn, if they were one person and had to do all the story-arcs would have been a mage? My personal RP style is usually that of a ranger, inspired by Talion in the Shadow of Mordor series. Some basic mage skills, always one handed swordsman or archery, light armour but alchemy and pretty much all the thief skills.
