r/Drugs AMA series: 5-MeO-DMT

5-MeO just keeps rising up in our poll of redditors, so hopefully everyone has stored up quite an array of questions.

Remember this episode of Family Guy in which students lick toads to get high? The skin on the toads contains 5-MeO-DMT ("The More You Know" Star). This is hardly a practical way of going about using 5-MeO though, and usage by indigenous tribes has historically been through pulverizing plants that contain the chemical into a snuff. Now that you've got a bit of history, on to the AMA.

First synthesis: 1936 by Toshio Hoshino and Kenya Shimodaira.

Intended use: None. Currently only used as an entheogen and recreational drug.

Current research into medical applications: None.

Legality: Illegal in nearly all countries (the US just added it to their drug schedule in January). Strangely, Canada seems to be the only country with absolutely nothing in its drug laws making mention of 5-MeO.
