No.

It turns out very few members of the community are capable of writing quality articles about Vim, fewer are willing to do it, and even fewer have the available bandwidth or necessary discipline… so the goal of getting 24 high quality articles in time is unrealistic. Also, the readership numbers were kind of disappointing.

Since last year, I have been trying to figure out a way forward. Here are a few options:

  • keep the calendar angle and make it a digest of the best content published elsewhere during the year, maybe interspersed with original content,
  • abandon the calendar angle and pivot to a more magazine-like collaborative blog model,
  • give up entirely and let it rot.

Oh, shame! I started using the zettelkasten notetaking method thanks to a Vimways article, and it has proven super useful. ctags too.

That said, I understand it's a lot of effort.

Option 1 sounds pretty good. I liked the fact that it was a calendar, because it's pretty original and makes it a bit of a tradition. And filtering the best content of the year would be very helpful too. The content may already be publicly available on the internet, but beginner or intermediate users won't immediately know which articles are great and which aren't. So having more experienced vimmers digest the content would help.

I should have numbered those options as they are presented in order of "interesting".

Both option 1 and 2 sound just perfect.

Thanks for doing this if you do, if not then no worries, we appreciate the time you spent on this in the last years.

Really loved the high quality content found here. I really like option number 2 to subscribe to for high quality content instead of an aggregator since that is quite prevalent already. Would love to see the high quality articles from option 2 show up in anothers option 1!

I like both options 1 and 2. I still go back and read the stuff from the last two years pretty often. Its been super helpful.

I don't know much about vim, and so I don't know that I could write articles, but I'd be happy to help in other ways.

Super interested in this.

Btw does anybody know what’s new coming up in vim? Would love to know what’s there in vim’s future roadmap.

Super interested in this.

Don't hold your breath.

Would love to know what’s there in vim’s future roadmap.

Off the top of my head:

  • a new vimscript version, see :help vim9,
  • phasing out language-specific bindings in favour of a single universal interface,
  • modernising the default colorschemes and adding new ones.

This is interesting, any threads to read up on this?

modernising the default colorschemes and adding new ones.

I came across this repo couple of weeks ago, I would like to get involved if there's an opportunity to.

You are very welcome, as is everyone, to help. We are currently focusing our efforts on the default colorschemes found in $VIMRUNTIME/colors so PRs are more than welcome, but feel free to look around and react to what to you see.
