Chimney removal/repair
We have a chimney that’s in disarray and are hesitant on paying for repairs. Especially since we replaced our furnace and rerouted the exhaust vent through the foundation. The only thing that is left is the hot water heater exhaust that goes through the chimney. I personally cut the holes for the furnace so I have no problem repeating the process for the HWH if that allows me to knock the chimney down to where the brick is solid. Side benefit would be gaining some bricks to repair some planter boxes on the back yard... I doubt this brick is still made and finding it has been impossible. Trying to get the house in good shape to sell hopefully sooner than later and I don’t want either of these issues as a negative against all the other work we have done. chimney and brick repairs

I did my water heater out the wall too, BUT it is not to code. Any passive vent has to be above the roof line. Well in my state anyway. Probably the same everywhere. I do have a Co2 detector right next to the heater that has never gone off so I am fine with it.
Yea I was afraid of the code issue... if we weren’t planning on selling I’d do the exact same thing! Thanks!
You can put a power vent on it. Then it is to code.
Happy Cake Day!
