At this point we now have the technology to get an exponentially better battery. Really incredible breakthroughs with a means to mass produce economically. The next 2-3 years will be integrating this tech into the factories that make consumer batteries.
I keep telling my anti-electric car friends that gas tanks are not holding more gas in the same space, but batteries keep getting better all the time. I see a point where the time difference between filling a gas tank and charging a battery will be negligible. I can even see a time where we will have jerry-can batteries to get you another 60 miles or so. The Tesla model 3 went from 312 miles to 322, and now is at 353 per charge. This was largely just due to software tweaks for the motors! Now get us new batteries and we've got 400 miles of range or more.
Hopefully they have something, but it's another "believe it when you see it" article. I'll wait to 2022.
