#Backstory

Gather around, my dear grandchildren. All little waterbenders should hear this legend one day. Let me tell you about the story of the great Captain Anchor! Many years ago, when my bones didn't ache and I could see clearly, a fearless waterbender ran away from home. He'd always stared out into the sea during sunrises and sunsets, as if he were yearning for something more in life. Why did he run from home? Did he have the burning desire to discover Undyne and rescue her from her shackles? Perhaps he wanted to see what this world contained, and if this world could contain him. Or maybe it was because I'd failed him...

In any case, the young waterbender had the courage to face whatever waves the world crashed at him, and he never looked back. For years he would wander around as a nomad, learning about the world and meeting new people. He soon found a group of likeminded individuals and a means to travel by sea - a ship! Thus, they formed the Anchored Pirate Crew, and his bravery and tenacity would be what earned him his name - Captain Anchor. Captain Anchor's leadership was the lighthouse of hope in the perilous storms of the sea that we see everyday. No matter what troubles came, Captain Anchor would remain and keep his crew anchored in both mind and body. He was loyal to his crew, and they were loyal to him. They'd forged unbreakable bonds that meant any would die for the other. Perhaps it was these bonds that made Captain Anchor so great.

Travel anywhere along the coasts of Almarant and ask for stories of Captain Anchor. They'd tell you how he'd raid the docks of House Gaia, gambled his ships in Zephros, sent supplies to The League when it first came to be, fought to defend against The Empire who seeked to raid what he regularly raided, and even that he braved the deepest waters of the vast ocean to find Undyne! Retired members of his crew tell tales of how Captain Anchor had sacrificed his whole left arm to ward off a heinous sea monster for his crew to escape without a single casualty - and survived! The crew found Captain Anchor washed up on the shores of House Highrock shortly after they escaped - beaten and bloody, but breathing. Captain Anchor was never the same as a fighter after that encounter, but he'd shown his bravery and loyalty as one of the most famed and feared pirates on the coasts of Almarant.

Word of his legendary deeds reached as far inland as House Greywater, where [insert lord here if anyone wants to be his lord, otherwise I guess he could be one of the late Lord Erik's thanes for helping The League in their time of need] sought out the retired Captain Anchor and offered him the position of Thane, along with pardoning him of his crimes. Indeed, now Captain Anchor lives his days out in peace, happily married, serving to train the youngsters of House Greywater and keeping a watchful, loyal eye to defend the land of his new family.

#Personality

What was Captain Anchor like? Well, you'll hear all kinds of answers from different people. His victims would scream cries of terror, describing him as a merciless and brutal savage, taking all in sight for his own gain. His "business partners" in the Copper District of Zephros would call him cunning and wary, somehow always bringing in what his stroke of luck found him from his voyages. The people of The League would only know him as an older, more mature sailor; he was someone who took from the rich and gave to the poor, a bringer of justice and a benevolent, jolly old man. And yet others in House Greywater may call him "prone to encouraging the rowdy side" of the young Lords, but also a good drinking buddy with great stories and an even greater singing voice.

Hm? How would I describe him? Well, he was a bit greedy and treated other's possessions as though they were his own. I suppose despite his own greediness, he despised the greediness of others - he was a hypocrite in that regard. He loved to fish - sometimes for days on end. I was always surprised by how patient he could be. And he'd always tell his mother that he loved her when she was still around. I... even though I never saw him again after he left... I'm proud to have had a son who led such a great life.

#Misc

  • Makes jokes about how he can't see and doesn't have an arm
  • Speaks in pirate speak
  • Captain Anchor's real name is Toklo, which means "Spontaneous and versatile"
  • His father's name is Tonraq, which means "Tiny man", and is the chieftain of a water tribe
  • His wife's name is Lucy, a barmaid at the tavern he frequents. Together, they've raised two boys: Tulok, 20, and Tulugaak, 18, both died in battle during the Empire's invasion of House Highrock, though Captain Anchor has yet to hear confirmation of their deaths and futilely hopes that they are still alive
  • As his body grows old and his wounds and missing body parts limit him, he was left behind for his bulkiness and tenacity, tasked with defending House Greywater as one of the last lines of defense
