Looking for romance where the wealthy H goes to live a poor man's life with the h, and loves it!

Request

I was watching the Korean drama Boys over Flowers the other day, which is about a wealthy business heir falling for a plucky poor girl. He's grown up in extreme wealth and is powerful beyond measure, but he has a cold and distant mother and no love at home. There is a wonderful episode where he goes to spend a weekend at the poor girl's apartment where she lives with her parents and little brother; they eat a poor meal but all the while are laughing and having fun, they all pitch in to make kimchi together, eat cheap street food, and go to the public bathhouse to wash... the H is such a fish out of water, but is spellbound by the h's close, loving family life. He comes to realize he is happier crammed all together in one family room with them than he would be in his mega mansion with nothing but the servants for company.

I need more of this sort of thing in my life! So many rich man poor girl romances have her being whisked away from her poor lifestyle to live the rich life, lavished with luxuries and given the 'good life'. I am hoping there also exists the reverse, where the rich guy comes to the realization that he would rather escape it all to live a modest life with the h instead.

I recommend you track down some of the Japanese version Hana yori dango with inoue Mao.

As for rich guy poor girl dramas, it is pretty trope especially in kdrama. Have you tried strong woman bong soon? The drama is a little wtf, especially toward the end, but it carries off the trope well.

I see Strong Woman Bong Soon is on Netflix here in the UK so I'm absolutely going to watch it next! Thank you :D

Can't think of any recommendations right now, but I love this trope and I absolutely love Boys of Flowers ! It's one of my favorite kdramas

I love this trope but have only ever seen it in manga. Following this thread because there must be a historical romance where the hero gives up his fortune for the heroine and I want to read it.

If you're interested, other manga with this trope: Taisho Maiden Fairytale, Stepping on Roses, and I think Takane & Hana is going in that direction.

YES! Thanks so much for the manga recs, I recently found I quite like to read manga online in the evenings with the TV on in the background, but having been out of the comics/manga world for like 15+ years I found myself hopelessly unable to penetrate the vast world of shojou that is out there!

This look amazing! Thanks so much, I'm on it like a car bonnet (as they say although I have no idea what that really means haha) :)

I think there is an manwa (Korean comic) that, the show came from and believe it is complete. I read it back in high school.

Edit: ok yes, it’s a manga, Japanese shojo comic. It was hilarious, and cute.

I thought it might have been! I have vague memories of seeing a few episodes of the Japanese version ages and ages ago, but I didn't like it as much as the Korean one (which seems to have a bigger production value and hotter guys) ;)

Adjacently, How to Bang a Billionaire by Alexis Hall had some elements of this.

This is why I love this sub- honestly this title would have me running for the hills but having read the synopsis on Goodreads I'm like 'yes sign me up please' haha. It's set in England too, which is nice as (being English myself) I don't see many contemporary romances on my home turf.

There's loads of Asian movies/tv with this trope. I think its really popular there.
