Welcome to r/Aberystwyth
We would like to encourage you all to actively participate in this reddit community, to help keep the community from becoming stale and stagnant.
First of all, we welcome any suggestions for improvements. A lot of people in an IRC channel have been yelling blue murder about the community CSS. This is fine, but it would be especially helpful if suggestions were made. Feel free to comment below with suggestions for changes to the community stylesheet, or for a title image, etc.
We actively encourage self-posts asking questions such as "Where is the best place in Aber for eating Chinese food?" and "Where's your favourite place in Aberystwyth to sit and watch the sun set?", in order to spark off a discussion, in which you may be imparted some valuable pearls of wisdom from long-time Aberystwyth folk.
Posting news from the Aber Guild of Students, or from the BBC news website etc, or indeed, any Aberystwyth related link (link to an event at the Arts Centre, for example) is highly encouraged. The more content we can get in this community, the better. We'll let the upvotes and downvotes sort out the good content from the bad.
If a post offends you, report it. The worst that can happen is that we will laugh at you nothing will be done about it. If it continues to irk you, message one of the mods explaining carefully your reasons why it is offensive/inappropriate, and don't forget to link us to the offending material, otherwise we won't know what you're on about.
Flame wars are somewhat inevitable within a reasonably small community where cabin fever is rife. My only suggestion, is that if you think something you want to say may massively anger someone for no good reason, then don't bother. If it's a strong opinion on a subject that is actively being discussed, then fine, but avoid deliberately trying to provoke a reaction.
Finally, please feel free to post in Welsh and/or English. We welcome bilingual submissions! Please don't downvote a submission just because you don't understand the language it's written in!
If a submission is in English, then it makes sense to follow suit and comment in English. Likewise for Welsh submissions. However, we're not going to stop you commenting in Welsh on an English thread etc, but please be sensible about it!
Other than that, have fun, and spread the word!
tl;dr - Suggest improvements in comments, self-post questions, link to Aber related stuff, avoid flamewars, spread the word. GO GO GO
