Apologies, I missed that this was a scheduled backup using snapshots rather than just a snapshot.

Are you including RAM in your snapshots? If so, the VM must be briefly frozen during the snapshot so a consistent RAM image can be captured.

It is just annoying. For example, all my clients get disconnected from my irc. And my nomad cluster sees nodes as down and starts to reschedule tasks. I think they do the freeze just to get the snapshot as consistent as possible? You can do a snapshot without a freeze but it is not the way proxmox does it. Probably with a (good?) reason.

But I can imagine this would be as issue in an enterprise setup too. Thought that maybe there was/is a way around the freeze.

From what I've noticed, I use snapshot mode and there is a brief 'pause' of the VM. I'm not sure there's much to be done about this. If the VM is supporting some application that cannot go down like this, I think the application needs to be able to handle some high availability features (like having multiple VM's running the application software in a cluster configuration - not talking about ProxMox's HA abilities).

I create snapshot backups for all my VMs every night at 2am. For every VM Proxmox seems to do short freeze while taking a snapshot. During this time the VM becomes unresponsive. This creates some issues for me. My nomad cluster loses sight of some tasks and tries to restart them, or my pfsense drops all connections. 


Anyone else has issues with these short interruptions? Any solutions? Before I used proxmox I used kvm with virsh and only took a snapshot before doing a backup. This always worked fine.
