Ring Peephole Knock Notification

Question

So I recently installed a Ring peephole cam on the front door of my apartment as we can’t install doorbells here. I connected it to Homebridge and the doorbell button works perfectly with the Home app. The Ring also has the ability to detect knocks, however, since it is installed directly on the door. It notifies of knocks via the Ring app notifications, but is there any way to make knocks show up as a doorbell press for HomeKit?

I think this is a fair feature request. Created a GitHub issue to track it. Still trying to decide if it should register a knock as a ding by default, or be a separate option. Would love input on that! How does the ring app/chime handle knocks?

The app sends a notification that says “✊Someone may be at your front door” with the preview of the camera. I don’t own a Chime so I can’t speak to that part. https://i.imgur.com/JK3hUbf.jpg

Is it pretty accurate, or do you get a lot of false alarms?

You can adjust the sensitivity in the Ring app. On this setting for my door, I haven’t gotten any false alarms yet, and it seems to pick up every knock. https://i.imgur.com/VUROsi1.jpg

I second this. For some reason people just don’t see the Ring doorbell in the middle of the friggin door and just knock. It would be nice to get the same doorbell function on knocks.

I don’t know about the Ring, but I also live in an apartment with a full-building intercom / doorbell system, and I integrated the doorbell and door opener buzzer into Homekit and it is wonderfully reliable. I even have it now playing a ding-dong over my Sonos speakers, instead of the mechanical BRRRRRRRRR that it made before. All retrofitted to the existing system, and all can be removed without any damage to the existing system.
