Asrock x470d4u RAM compatibility
I was wondering if someone with the Asrock x470d4u and ECC memory (32gbx2 preferably) could share what RAM they used and if anyone has had success with these Crucial ECC Memory sticks
I recently put my build together and it wouldn't post, so I assumed it was a BIOS and Ryzen 3900XT issue. However, I'd have to wait a while for a Zen 1 or Zen+ CPU, so I decided to troubleshoot other issues first. Once I switched the ECC RAM sticks out with some regular old RAM, the computer posted.
Now I'm wondering if my sticks of RAM just aren't compatible with the motherboard, or if I got some odd RAM (the RAM I got is similar but doesn't match the picture from the newegg link)
Thanks!

You need unbuffered ECC RAM. If the RAM you have is registered (buffered) like the RAM in your link, then thats why they aren’t working; they are not compatible.
This seems to be it, thank you! I appreciate it; lots to learn about this new hobby
No problem. Just look for UDIMM ECC sticks from Crucial, SK Hynix, Samsung, or Kingston and you’ll be good. And make sure the timings are compatible.
These are on the memory QVL list for your mobo:

If you want 32GB sticks then they should be a solid option.
I made the same mistake when building my server on that board :)
