ICM question

i remember this one hand of a 22$ final table on pokerstars 7-8 years ago, because i still feel bad for this person in the SB. the first one got something around 100k. it was early in the morning and i was railing at the final table.

last 8 people, next payout 8-10k. There were 2 massive chip leaders with about 30bb each, the rest had between 2 and 10 BB. It folds to the SB (30bb), he pushes all in against the other big stack in the BB. He snap calls and wakes up with AA. SB busts.

I wonder if BB has to fold any 2 here and calling this was actually the wrong play.

You can use an ICM calculator and figure it out. But no, calling AA is not the wrong play here.

Weird question. I can't see how folding AA preflop is ever the right move here.

Only in sattelites. Or maybe on the bubble of a 30,000 person field when you have like .2bb

You should be calling AA. Calling gives you a > 80% chance to have 60bb when everyone else is short, allowing you to dramatically increase the chances you win the massive first place prize, compared to the relatively small other prizes

Calling AA/KK is totally fine here. If you win this, you"ll end up shipping the whole tournament almost guaranteed. The ICM implications of not calling are worse for sure
