I wouldn’t even bother at this point.

Just let him produce man lmao, seeing a lot of people way too upset over this. He’s allowed to produce for other artists. It’s obviously not for his die-hard fans, which is why it’s not widely marketed with his name on it.

Legit, truly, how can anyone actually enjoy this? Is it bad? Ehhh. But the lyrics are the same exact tired subjects as the past 3 decades of rap, the rapper has very little flow, and his voice is just basically monotone. The beat is even more boring...

I know music is subjective but truly wtf? Are we not all here for game-changing electronic music by an artist who became popular through innovation and pushing boundaries? Skrillex can do whatever makes him happy, but he really just should retire the Skrillex name if he wants to sellout like this.

Its getting so old, and at this point, I have a feeling if the album ever does release, it'll either be full of songs like this or simply dated af because the scene has passed his album by. He needs to reclaim his throne and he just refused to do so

Let the man Sonny have fun, just cause it’s not with your tastes doesn’t mean it’s garbage lmao.

He does what he wants, not what some dude on their computer browsing Reddit wants.

I completely agree with you moreover if you expect an artist like skrillex to stick to a certain genre kill the expectations or change your mindset he is legend he does what he does better than most of them. versatility in his music taste is the factor which made him the king. So throne or not he is the king already.

I'd literally be willing to bet this wasn't sonny having fun, but was literally just a paycheck. Simp harder for him, music and an artist can be critiqued

DeadassZero•

Not sure if you know but Sonny got with Jack Harlow cause he wanted to get Jack’s permission to release his remix of What’s Poppin and this is a by product of them linking up...

Holy shit you’re so close minded and ignorant it’s amazing LMAO.

Yessss keep riding that dick and justifying these half-assed releases, I'm sure skrillex will personally thank you

"He's just having fun"

"its just a feature"

"he can't put his own sound on a track even though he worked on it and used to do that all the time, it HAS to be tame for the other artist...who chose skrillex out of all producers to work with"

The excuses are getting sooo old

He should definitely make whatever music he wants but he just needs to be transparent with his fansbase. Remember back in the MySpace days when he spoke about his creative direction all the time? The whole reason for the Twipz and Skrillex aliases was to differentiate his then new electronic sound from his previous Sonny material.

If he wants to go down this road as a rap/pop producer, he should just nail down a specific sound and stick to it. He hasn't really done that yet. Every rap collab from Wild For The Night to El Chapo to this one have been getting progressively less electronic. It seems questionable to me.

And to be fair, he hasn't released any HORRIBLE solo material yet. I mean, Kliptown is certainly him and Midnight Hour was a decent house tune.

I usually just go to Trampa or Chime if I want some actually boundary-pushing dubstep these days, but I still have hope for a Skrillex album. I mean, Recess had some hidden gems, so who knows.

Dog, him making a track with Jack Harlow does not mean he’s like only going to release shit like this.

Y’all seem to forget that there’s someone else involved in the project, he has to make something that both parties agree on.

Dunno where you’re getting this whole “he needs to be transparent with his fanbase” shit from, the dude just vibing making the kind of music he wants and working with people that interest him lol. He doesn’t need to do all that “announcing his creative direction” stuff.

Cool, but don't claim he cares about his fans anymore then. His behavior has markedly changed. This is the guy who used to release torrent links for his albums because he just wanted people to be able to have them. He used to care about his fans

Yep but big Atlantic bucks changes people

I guess the deadmau5 quote still reigns true: "He's a little hippie and he likes to work with people." And while he can totally do whatever he wants, I think the "has to make something both parties agree on" point is exactly where selling out happens. Jack definitely doesn't want to be rapping over crazy electro drops or anything. Artists lose their integrity that way. Happened to Zedd right after Stay for example.

I'm not saying Sonny is a sellout, he definitely wouldn't have made Kliptown if he was, but the mainstream work and lack of a cohesive sound is concerning for a lot of us. And I respect most of what he does, I like a lot of rap myself (I'm very excited for that Trippie collab if it ever happens) but when his fansbase is so polarised, touching down on his direction would be helpful.

I don't want to be one of those dubstep fans that's always, "SONNY, MAKE DUBSTEP NOW!" because I know he can do more than that. But his collabs and production credits definitely don't hit me like his solo material does.

And at the end of the day, at least he's not as gone as Daft Punk.

Yeah no, he has anything but incoherence in his sound. Maybe you don’t like the things he works on, but I can pick out a skrillex production pretty easily. Chill out and stop whining lol, albums coming

I agree fully with almost everything you said, well put

Well said. Realistically, he owes us nothing, like any artist, but that’s exactly the point. There are plenty of artists that keep their fans updated despite the fact they also owe us nothing. Maybe Skrillex is one of those people that doesn’t like sharing bad news. But the truth is always less harmful than simply what you want to hear. I’ve lost so much respect for Skrillex every single time he talks about an album and then literally nothing happens for years. He could literally post ‘crazy year, no album this year’ and it would give all of us some relief. The mild and quick disappointment would be far better than years of false hope.

Once again, I feel the need to clarify that he owes us nothing. Perhaps he is uncomfortable sharing, perhaps he wants to stay unavailable to his fans so they don’t try and cross boundaries with him, perhaps he’s been going through shit for 6 years since Recess and speaking out is difficult. Whatever his reason, it’s his own prerogative and it’s perfectly fair. Again, he owes us nothing. But it makes it difficult being a fan of his, and the reality is that he long ago fell off my ‘favourite artist’ label in favour of other artists who release music and communicate their thoughts. It is what it is 🤷

I mean his album tracks are still years ahead of the scene. He’s fine, he still has his throne. This is a co prod, not even a feature on the track. Don’t go expecting Skrillex sounds in it.

Not his fault, your expectations of Skrillex producing for someone else aren’t based in reality. His own tracks are, and will continue to be very different compared to his productions that release under a completely different artist.

Produced by, produced by, and more produced by... really, I'm tired right now

i mean, its a good track and the whole LP is good. but Sonny is always on the most basic tracks. like he can do whatever he wants and he still makes these basic prods.

it's good, but what if Sonny produces Tyler Herro. man that would be the Hip-Hop top hit of 2021. sometimes i cries back those fucking fire beats and the wild Sonny COMEBACK MAN WE MISS U SO SO MUCH
