Air Play Options?

dear those of you with an external monitor in your setup... are you using hdmi ports, apple tv, or is there a bridge of sorts you’d recommend? i found some dongles (because that’s a name for something i’m supposed to take seriously) that claim to support air play, but i just don’t know.
