LPT: if youre a group of people who cant agree on a charity to support, why not select a dog at a rescue instead and donate towards its vet/transport bills. Youll be making a direct impact on saving that dog and any unused funds will be directed towards other dogs in need.

Yeah the whole idea of donating to a fucking dog when millions are being thrust into poverty in this country is so disconnected from reality that it’s genuinely offensive.

Not really. One is a faceless company that likely spends a lot of of its donations on admin, the other has feelings and a heartbeat and an actual consequence of not being funded i.e dying. Plus people like dogs, it pulls on heart strings

I’m sorry, but how is that any different from selecting a charity?? You’re basically just choosing the animal shelter...

Go into facebook and type "dog rescue" and select search by post. Individual posts of dogs that need donations will come up. Pick the first dog in the list.

Also there are Facebook pages/groups that aggregate all of the dogs from across all the rescue groups that need pledges - they create posts with the dogs details and network them and followers comment their pledge on the individual dog's post. Join one of those pages, pick the first dog that comes up and et voila! An Australian example is Operation: Deathrow2Freedom. Its rescue agnostic.

So there are still choices being made... you’re selecting to help a dog/animal, and you’re selecting which dog/animal to support by relying on the algorithms of an internet search. If people are already disagreeing about how to spend the money, I don’t see this as a obviously unified solution, as there is still a significant chance that people still won’t agree to this. (And for the record, I volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter so I understand the concept of sponsoring pets and how donations are spent)

Alright well stick with the cancer vs diabetes vs homeless vs sick kids vs alzheimers vs immigrants vs poor kids vs 3rd world kids vs 5km run vs ronald mcdonald house argument where a huge portion of the donations go towards admin costs.

Picking a dog and saying this specific dog needs $50 in neutering and $100 in transport and it can be saved is a far easier sell in my opinion. Its a far more tangible option but I get it.

If it worked for you, that’s awesome. I just don’t see it as a real LPT. Not trying to burst your bubble.

Most rescue organisations post dogs that need funds on social media with a bit of a back story. There are also facebook groups that aggregate needy dogs requiring pledges of donations. Most dogs cant be saved without having their vet bill and transport from a pound to a shelter paid.
