All I want to Christmas is a draft pod

Seriously Why can we not draft with 8 of our friends and play games yet. They have instituted 8 person drafting why is making a lobby to play against people so hard. This should be top priority.

This should be top priority.

They probably choose features based on how many people they would impact, rather than based on what you personally would prefer. I doubt many people would often make their own 8-player pods.

It would also probably be unpopular when they charged almost the same price for these 8-player pods as they do for regular drafts.

I have exactly one friend that plays this game, and I dont think he drafts. As cool as this concept sounds, I imagine only a very small minority would use it.

I think you would be surprised how many people have a group they draft with regularly that they could get to play arena if they only supported those of us with more friends.

Don't we already have a 3rd party website to do this ? I doubt that the draft pod thing will ever be available cause people will abuse it, and if they make it a phantom draft mode people will complaint anyway.

12
CosbysPersuasionJacetheMindSculptor •

They can easily mitigate the abuse by making it more expensive.

therandomguy16Chandra Torch of Defiance•

People will complaint : "why charge more for the same thing". It's a lose lose situation for Wotc so i don't think they will ever work on it

2
CosbysPersuasionJacetheMindSculptor •

So what if they complain? Its the same thing with premier and quick draft. People still complain about premier draft cost but most would rage if you took it away now. Its basically the same thing except for the price. The only difference is you are drafting with AI or human. The only difference in this situation is you are drafting with friends. So you can have three formats: AI Human Friends If they charge more, WOTC profits. Players get what they want (even if its more expensive) so players "profit" too.

how? Even if you amke the price of the draft the exact same as the price of three packs and then build 7 bots to draft with you are still spending money for the bots to draft when it would be more effiecent just to buy a pod amount of packs on your main. even if the Draft chaffe is not worth anything wild cards and others are. you just do not offer prizes. Hell i would pay 500 gems with not prize support to draft with friends and then be able to play with them.

The reason "drafting with friends" is not allowed is because it would be incredibly easily abused. Talk to your friends and coordinate what you're passing. Make 7 bot accounts and pass all the rares to your main. Etc.

Posideoffries92•

while I agree drafting with friends is abusable, I think the 7 bot accounts is....rather hyperbolic.

PEKKAmi•

I have five accounts already that I grind 4 wins daily on each. This system enables me to earn a free draft each day through rotating accounts.

It isn’t much to make another two...

1
EowrenSelesnya•

Dude that's more like a job

8

Yeah that doesn’t sound like a “free” draft lol

2
PEKKAmi•

You’d be surprised how fast it is to grind 4 wins through “Play” if you don’t care about the Ranked ladder. Optimize your time through early concessions. Everyone is less salty.

1
Posideoffries92•

I mean, if that's what you want to do - have at it. But the average person definitely does not have the time or will to grind that much.

2
EvilSporkOfDeath•

But why?

1
PEKKAmi•

Because it is free and I keep all my money in my pocket. I have the time and I enjoy the grind.

if you made the price to enter a pod the same as the price of three packs how is that abusable. even if you make 7 bots and have your main draft all the good cards you could have just spent the money on your main and gotten all the good cards and the chaffe which would yield some wild cards.

1
DaBestAroundOP•

So if they made the draft 500 gems for each participant or 4000 gems to send out 7 invites you would be spending 500 gems on three packs or 4000 gems on 24 packs. That is not a good rate. It is better to buy packs and get all the cards including including all the rares. I know a lot of people that would spend 5 bucks to have a fun draft night with friends. Even without any prize support.

silver_054•

Even easier: make it phantom. How are you going to abuse a system that doesn’t give out rewards that are worth the effort?

2
PEKKAmi•

We all know WotC is greedy. It wouldn’t pass up a chance for greater profits if there is a way. But WotC lack of action here is telling. That is, it is likely WotC still makes more money having people play regular draft than phantom.

While you think WotC should be motivated to earn your money, the reality is your money is just the same as everyone else’s. It may simply be that it isn’t cost effective enough to program the feature you want when the same funding can be used on something with greater profit/mass appeal, like a mobile client.

Basically OP’s complaint is the classic “WotC should do what I want because I’m the most important customer”. Everyone is the most important customer and no one is.

The value of a draft is not just in the packs. The experience of drafting vs players cannot now be bought on MTGA for less than 1500 gems. They're not going to introduce a new mode at one third the price.

1
Galaxi0n•

"this should be top priority"

I'm sorry, but no definitely not. An extremely niche and unrequested (and frankly inconvenient for digital) game mode should not be top priority when the client itself is in such a bare-bones state, not to mention there are so many game modes that are more popular and requested like Historic Brawl, Artisan, Pauper etc...

5
Abomb•

I just want a draft option where you play the pod you draft in rather than whatever else people on the internet might have gotten.

2
buyacanary•

They apparently used to do that on MTGO but scrapped it because it proved incredibly inconvenient and required like half a day commitment for 8 strangers. It sounds a lot better on paper than it would be in practice.

5
MrSongbyrd•

They did, and it did. Any tournaments would require committing at least a couple hours, as in that mode you can only go as fast as the slowest match.

2
PadisharMtGA•

It is way too slow. Pod draft is the ultimate draft experience, but being forced to commit 3+ hours and potentially having the majority of that time being spent waiting for other matches to finish is just miserable.

It is no surprise that Magic Online moved to league-based draft pairings some time after Hearthstone showed how great experience it is to just queue up again right after finishing a limited match.

If there ever was a very high stakes draft queue/event or a top8 of some limited tournament with good prizes, then I would endure the slow pace of playing in pods. But a regular 3-round traditional draft event where I can net just abother entry fee? No extra waiting thank you.

arena is a much better platform many of my friend play arena bu mtgo is very buggy. The fact that they do not have a good draft system on a much better platform is kinda bull shit.

its been out for 2 years! a game is not new when its been out for two years. why is it wrong to want a system to play with your friends on a game you like instead of on a buggy outdated platform that is difficult to understand.

First, it would have to be phantom and wouldn't have prizes because people could collude. Or you could just play with 7 additional dummy accounts and let your main account get all the rares and prizes.

Second, it could not be cheap/free because that would mean some paying customers would move to that mode and stop paying.

So, question is, how much gold/gems are you and your friends willing to pay for a draft where you don't get to keep the cards and that does not award prizes?

In the end it might just be more reasonable to draft on an external site and build the decks in Arena and play challenge matches.
