Australian here. Canada’s contribution to CANZUCK would be huge! Don’t underestimate yourselves.

In this sense, CA might benefit from the CANZUK alliance, but I don't think it has a lot to offer to the other constituent countries. I might be wrong though.

I agree with this too. Canada just doesn't have the infrastructure in the North to project power/control or supply shipping routes. Not to mention the North is vastly under developed. 

Canada will not benefit from its Northern shores freeing of ice directly and will be more reliant on the US to fil in for the role of protecting/developing the North.

Yes I agree it'll gain strength as compared to today. It likely won't be a real "power" though.

I would argue that Canada will be outclassed to a much lesser extent than it is today when you factor in the benefits climate change poses to arctic nations.

Compound that with the *consequences* places such as Australia are experiencing today while Korea and JP are facing serious demographic problems going into the future.

Canada's potential may be restrained by internal forces and is most certainly not going to surpass the monoliths of today within the next few decades, though the future is looking far brighter for it than almost everywhere else.

As a Canadian (and Taiwanese), my belief is that Canada will never be truly influential. No real investment in military and we're in an economic hole. Any growth (from immigration or elsewhere) would be getting the country out of that hole. 
Post-2035/2040, we would still be outclassed by JP, Aus, Korea, US, rising Asian countries, CN, EU (as a whole), etc. Not much room to navigate.

Much like Australia, Canada remains too wedded to old-school industries such as mineral extraction, commodity exports and manufacturing, along with banks that fear backing anything else. Moreover, in a heating world fossil fuels will be phased out, forests will burn, crop yields will fall, and selling fossil-fueled planes and cars will become impossible.

What Canada needs most is a tech industry, which means a more robust research university and national laboratory system. It's crazy that Shopify is Canada's most valuable company, yet the only tech firm among Canada's biggies.

Regarding the Québécois divide, it hasn't been a critical issue for Canada for a while. The issue largely peaked in the 1990s, with a razor-thin referendum nearly resulting in Québec's independence, but since that time separatism has subsided to become a visible but no longer nearly so dominant force in the province's politics. The younger generations in Québec tend to be less focused on the issue than the older ones, partly because they live in a world shaped by the compromises made in the name of Canadian unity (like official bilingualism), and were not alive to remember times of more demeaning Anglo-Canadian policy towards their different culture.

With that having been said, as long as Québec remains a French speaking province surrounded by Anglophone countries and provinces (and even among Canadians, real understanding across the cultural divide is often hard to find), I think it will always serve to keep the idea, however faint and out of fashion it might seem at given times, ali

Canada is not into expansion and it doesn’t need to be. For all the crazy stuff the US does, it does make for a good military ally. And anyone threatening Canada is also threatening the majority of the commonwealth as well as the US.


That leaves Canada to develop its economy which should become even more powerful in the next fifty years as migration continues and tech companies seek out friendly companies. The US is a wildcard however, as even a small shift in politics in the US is a destabilizer for Canada.

As the title asks, Canada is often ignored because of lighting rod of a neighbor below. However, as typically unaccessible routes to it's north become open, and Canada attempts to increase it's immigration, and economic power, how could it alter it's international relations? 

Further, given the perilous state of the Quebecian divide, how much danger is it in?

If Canada becomes more influential in the coming 50 years, how will it's relationships change?
