I (23 YF) love my boyfriend (24 YM) but we have so many misunderstandings.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 6 months, and he is by far the best person I've ever dated! We have the same values/interests and we always have a great time together. He makes me feel like the most special girl in the world! I can see a future with him, but lately we've been having quite a few misunderstandings with one another. I wouldn't say they are arguments because we rarely fight, but miscommunication that leads to someone being hurt or upset.

For example, today he booked a nice dinner for our 6 month anniversary at a steak house. In the past, we've gone out for nice dinners and he said he hated the atmosphere/people there due to how fake it felt. When he told me about booking this dinner, my mind immediately went to this memory and didn't want him to waste money on an expensive dinner he wouldn't even enjoy. When I told him this, he seemed hurt and said that he wanted to take me out to a nice dinner, because he likes to do nice things for me and loves to see me happy. I suppose I assumed wrongly and this whole thing could have been avoided. This has been happening more frequently as we've dated, and we always fix it and move past it. But then it happens again and the cycle repeats. Does anyone have advice on how we can improve our communication to avoid these misunderstandings with one another?
