So I'm short on precious components for invention and rings of slaying would be a great source. But everybody keeps saying I should unlock the slayer helmet first. Right now at 125 combat (attack, strength and defence at 90) and 74 slayer, tasks are not that hard and I do not feel a helmet would be a great enough benefit. Can someone convince me what best to spend my first 400 points on?

Slayer helmet 100%. You’re finally getting near where slayer becomes interesting. Can diss regular jewelry instead of making rings of slaying
Tbh I didn't get broad arrows, rune arrows were about 700k exp/hr and pretty cheap fletching exp.
As for the rings, I intended to get them but I honestly haven't had too much of a need.
So I went with helm, since its the most highly recommended on every video I watched.
Buy bulk cheap bows and dissemble them. Get ur slayer helmet then start saving your slayer points for tasks and such
I’d say your first two unlocks should be broad bolts and ring of slaying, in whatever order you prefer. Your stats are fine to blaze through most tasks without a slayer helm. I suggest saving the slayer helm for your third purchase. Then upgrading it from there.
