Dishwashing residue

Unfortunately I am not at home and cannot remember the make and model of my dishwasher.

For about the past year, I have been dealing with my dishwasher leaving a white residue that sticks to my dishes. I have tried different detergents and different methods for cleaning the dishwasher itself, but I have had no luck.

I am not sure if it has anything to do with hard water in my house or what. As a result, I am now just hand washing my dishes.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, what did you do to rectify the situation? Thanks to any and all for any and all advice!
