Wow that’s awesome!! Found it on Etsy, it’s being sold as a print and wanted to validate what the seller said before buying! She said it meant “a brave heart in tough times , is a companion to its owner” and its mentioned it’s from ancient egyptian literature, but didn’t specify exactly where from. Thank you!
here is the context for that line (a little darker than it first seemed)
“I am saying this so that my heart can respond to me. I am revealing to it about my suffering. I am entrusting it with the burden which is upon my back. As for the brave heart in a troublesome situation, it is a friend for its master. Since I have a heart that knows pain, Then I would rest upon it. I shall burden it with words of misery. I shall thrust onto it my suffering.” - translated by Yordan Chobanov
Yup! She sent me additional background info! “The one that you're interested in comes from a piece of literature known as ‘The Lamentations of Khakheperre-seneb’, written in around 1650 BCE. “
I agree - here is another translation (maybe more accurate)
"I grieve in my heart. It is hard to keep silent about it, another heart would bend; but a heart strong in distress: It is a comrade to its lord. Had I a heart skilled in hardship, I would take my rest upon it, weigh it down with words of grief, lay on it my malady!" translated by Miriam Lichtheim
yes
"If the heart is strong in a difficult situation, one is equal to his lord"
where is this from??

My translation was close. but i can see how "companion to its owner" is a better translation.
I did a little searching and found it in "Complaints of Khakheperraseneb"

damn this is a little darker than it appeared initially, but beautiful nonetheless!
